00:00As police divers combed the river behind me today, friends of the two boys involved in this crash
00:07gathered at the scene of the accident. They were here to pay their respects to a 15-year-old boy
00:11who died and a 14-year-old whose arm was severed when their jet ski collided with something in the
00:17water around six o'clock last night. Part of the jet ski was pulled from the water this afternoon
00:22as police gave an update on what happened. They say witnesses heard the 14-year-old boy in the
00:28water calling for help and a police officer and a paramedic swam out to rescue him. They brought
00:34him back to shore and he was taken to hospital. They raced out, secured the young person and brought
00:41them safely back to the shore. From my perspective, a very, very brave effort in relation to doing that.
00:48Today we heard from the two emergency service officers who went into the water. There was police
00:53that went on top of the bridge. They shined a light down and we heard him calling out for help. So
00:58it was sort of just instinctive, just got in the water, got it done. The victim was floating
01:04away from us at the time. So it was probably 60 metres that we had to swim to catch up to the
01:09victim. The 15-year-old boy was pulled from the water a short time later, but he couldn't be saved.
01:14The 14-year-old underwent surgery this morning and this afternoon he's in a stable condition.
01:20Police say both of the teenagers were experienced riders and they were wearing life jackets.
