Dozens of floral tributes have been left for 11 children and two adults after a
00:04
knife attack in Southport on Monday. The children were at a Taylor Swift themed
00:09
dance workshop at a summer holiday club. At around 11.50 a.m. police were called
00:14
to a property on Hart Street to report of a stabbing. When officers arrived they
00:19
were shocked to find multiple people, many of whom were children, had been
00:23
subjected to a ferocious attack and had suffered serious injuries. It's thought
00:29
children were in attendance when the attack was carried out. It's believed
00:33
that the adults who were injured were trying to protect the children at the
00:36
time. Armed officers, 13 ambulances and four air ambulances were dispatched to
00:42
the scene and a huge police cordon has been put in place. Northwest Ambulance
00:46
Service said its paramedics had rushed victims to Alder Hey Children's Hospital
00:50
in Liverpool which had itself declared a major incident. Others were taken to the
00:55
Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, Aintree University Hospital and Southport
00:59
and Thornby Hospital. A 17 year old male from Banks in Lancashire who was born in
01:04
Cardiff has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and has
01:09
been taken to a police station where he has been interviewed by detectives. This
01:14
incident is not currently being treated as terror related and police are not
01:18
looking for anyone else in connection with it. Merseyside police have warned
01:22
that a name has been shared on social media in connection with the suspect in
01:27
the incident in Southport. This name is incorrect and people are urged not to
01:31
speculate on details of the incident whilst the investigation is ongoing.
01:35
Sefton Council have announced the availability of mental health provision
01:39
for anyone who needs it. The local authorities said Lineker Street
01:43
Family Wellbeing Centre is open for members of the community to get support.
01:47
Residents will have access to mental health and talking therapy teams on site.
01:52
Merseyside Police's specialist family liaison officers are providing support
01:56
to the families at this terrible time.
