News, a couple of other NBA notes, Leroy, the NBA agreed to a 11 year, 76 billion, the
00:08
NBA.
00:09
Oh yeah.
00:10
Yeah.
00:11
So that's 11 years, $76 billion broadcast deal with ESPN, NBC and Amazon prime.
00:16
So there you go.
00:18
And then Jonte Porter has pled guilty to his public gambling scandal.
00:22
Think about that.
00:23
So basically if you split that up amongst the teams and the players, everybody's going
00:30
to get a billion a year.
00:32
Yeah.
00:33
They were saying, uh, I think someone's going to, like, you were going to hit like 80, 90
00:37
per year.
00:38
Some of these players, pretty crazy good for them, but it's, that's, that's insane.
00:44
But here, if I can put it in perspective, cause everybody's talking about these players
00:48
make too much, sounds like a lot, but you make a percentage of what your owner makes.
00:59
Yeah.
01:00
They get 51%.
01:01
They need you to make the billions of billions of dollars and you can charge the hundreds
01:04
of millions.
01:05
Right.
01:06
Right.
01:07
If they were only making 10 million a year, then you'd be playing for a hundred grand.
01:10
Like, so that's kind of how that works, you know, and, and for people to say, Oh, these
01:16
So what would you suggest the owners keep it, but without the product, they don't make
01:20
that money.
01:21
And that's kind of how, how these things play out.
01:24
It's the same thing in football.
01:26
Like nobody ever thought when I was, I genuinely don't, I was playing the salary cap was less
01:32
than a hundred million.
01:33
I don't have a problem with the players making a ton of money.
01:36
The thing that I don't understand is I don't understand why we've started putting handcuffs
01:40
on these teams and like there's aprons and untradeable and you make these, like, I don't
01:47
understand why that, why, why this is good.
01:49
Cause, and I'll tell you one thing that that has been weird and this isn't just a heat
01:52
thing.
01:53
Although I know how you're going to lead that to me thinking it's a heat thing, but I don't
01:57
understand why if a team is good at drafting, why they're going to be handcuffed by having
02:04
to pay all the guys that they're, that they bring into the league and then to the point
02:09
where they can't really make improvements.
02:11
So like you could draft good, but maybe you don't draft a lead and one guy wants to come
02:14
to you.
02:15
I just, and I think part of what made the NBA fun and what kind of revitalized it was
02:19
player movement and guys getting to go to different teams.
02:21
And now it feels like they're really hindering that.
02:24
And I don't love it.
02:25
Here's what I would say.
02:27
And I believe this in all sports, you should not be penalized for drafting and developing
02:35
a player at no point in time.
02:38
If you draft a guy or you bring a guy in and you ride them out for two to three years
02:45
in the G league or what have you, without him getting picked up when it's time for him
02:50
to get his come up, that team should not be penalized for signing that guy.
02:55
That means that if you draft the guy and you bring him in, I'm talking about like these
03:02
guys in the second round or the guys in the late first round, we're not talking about
03:05
the lottery picks.
03:06
The lottery pick guys go always play the salary game, right?
03:10
But I'm talking about those guys you pick at the end of the first round, the second
03:13
round is the two way guys or whatever.
03:16
If you have them for a certain amount of time, you should not be penalized salary cap wise
03:24
for signing them to extensions.
03:27
You shouldn't because I'm tired of the Miami heat developing players for the rest of the
03:35
league because they can't do their job, right?
03:38
And so there needs to be some kind of reward or even like, it's such a stupid thing.
03:43
Like, okay, let's say the, the, the Miami, he did want to keep Caleb Martin, right?
03:49
He's got to do it.
03:50
Why could, why like the, do you know how stupid it is that Caleb Martin can only sign an extension
03:56
with the Miami heat and not test free agency.
03:59
So you could only be in this position to make $60 million up to this day and hope nobody
04:05
else.
04:06
Why can't he come back and say, Hey, can I get that original deal?
04:07
You know how dumb that is?
04:08
Right.
04:09
Like why?
04:10
Because he opted out.
04:11
Right.
04:12
So, so the same money comes because, but isn't that dumb?
04:14
No, here's why.
04:16
Because the way that was set up and this has nothing to do with salary cap, it does, but,
04:21
but it doesn't.
04:22
The reason why they would be able to do that is because he would opt in and that money
04:26
wouldn't kick until next year.
04:27
No, I understand.
04:28
But like the fact that he's penalized, right.
04:32
Just by not being able to test the market and the team, like that, that sucks.
04:38
Right.
04:39
Like, and I don't know, and I don't really know who that benefits, who's benefiting by
04:41
that.
04:42
I guess the Sixers, that's it.
04:43
The Sixers.
04:44
Right.
04:45
That's it.
04:46
Now they get a play.
04:47
Who's going to make 65 million for 32 million.
04:48
Right.
04:49
I don't know.
04:50
This is a, they write this in the, they say in the short term, the deals will certainly
04:54
mean that the league salary capital rise 10% annually.
04:56
The maximum allowed by the terms of the most recent collective bargaining agreement between
05:02
the players and the NBA.
05:03
That means players such as okay.
05:04
So you shake Gilders, Alexander and Luca Dodge, which could be making around 80 million in
05:08
the 2030, 31 season.
05:10
That raises at least some possibility that top players might be earning somewhere near
05:15
$100 million per season by the mid 2030s.
05:18
Yep.
05:19
I can see it.
05:20
And they're also saying that this is also going to employ with a expansion too, is we're
05:25
going to get two new teams, likely both likely Vegas and Seattle, right?
05:30
Which means the Timberwolves are coming over to the east.
05:32
Probably.
05:33
Yeah.
05:34
I don't think so.
05:35
Like you're already scheming and bam, Oh, would Memphis and Timberwolves, here's what's
05:44
crazy.
05:48
I think we can handle the injury bug with these rookies adding to our depth.
05:52
Are you out of your bleep in mind, right?
05:56
If that's the case, then why would you send your healthy player to play summer league?
06:00
Hmm.
06:01
I don't understand why he is.
06:04
There's gotta be something to it though.
06:06
They got a plan.
06:07
I don't know what that plan is, but they got a plan or he's just a hoops junkie.
06:14
Yeah.
06:16
The guess would be that he's why it's not stupid.
06:22
He's a hoops junkie.
06:23
I'm sure he'll talk tomorrow after the game.
06:25
So we'll, we'll find out he ain't gonna, he's gonna.
06:31
Why are you getting exhausted about this?
06:33
Because you think he's not going to say the company line?
06:36
I don't know.
06:37
You think he's going to say, look, I'm going to be honest with you.
06:40
I really don't want to be here.
06:41
Maybe he played a lot of basketball last year, but they asked me to come.
06:44
Will you be mad if he says it's because I'm a hoops junkie?
06:54
I would never speak to him again.
06:56
We would do an interview and I would just sit there.
06:59
I would just, you'd ban.
07:01
I may.
07:02
I guess I won't talk to him.
07:05
No.
07:06
No.
07:07
What if I asked him the question tomorrow on the zoom and I say, hi May, did you play
07:12
in summer league based on some plan or are you just a hoops junkie?
07:21
I can ask that.
07:23
Why not?
07:24
It's a little interview question, baby.
07:30
Why do I have to be your bit every day?
07:33
Why?
07:34
Dude.
07:35
We'll get to those BAM comments coming up.
