Listen to the eerie sounds of Chile's 'singing' lake
A lake in central Chile is producing sounds that some say sounds like a song from outer space.
But the phenomenon is very much from this planet.
The sounds are caused by the movement or cracking of thin ice layers in the Laguna del Maule lake, explained glaciologist Andres Rivera, who works at the Chile University.
“The scene reminds you of the first Ice Age movie,” recalled Francisco Pulgar, who heads a group called Defensores Region del Maule, which advocate for the protection of the area.
