Thank you. This is a declaration of the result of poll election of a Member of Parliament
00:18
for Morecambe and Lunesdale on Thursday 4th July 2024. I, Helen Bindley, being the returning
00:25
officer at the above election, do hereby give notice that the number of votes recorded for
00:31
each candidate at the election is as follows. Lizzie Collinge, Labour Party, 19,603. Gina
00:53
Dowding, Green Party, 2,089. Peter Jackson, Liberal Democrats, 4,769. David Thomas Morris,
01:15
the Conservative Party candidate, 13,788. Barry Michael Parsons, Reform UK, 7,810.
01:35
The number of ballot papers rejected was as follows. Voting for more candidates than voter
01:41
was entitled to 26. Being unmarked or wholly void for uncertainty, 145. Total of 171.
01:52
And I do hereby declare that Lizzie Collinge is duly elected.
02:11
Firstly, I would like to thank David for his 14 years of service to Morecambe and Lunesdale and
02:18
to Gina, Barry and Peter for a good campaign and a healthy debate. Thank you also to the
02:26
returning officer, the police, elections office staff, polling station staff and the people who
02:33
have counted the votes. Thank you for ensuring a free and fair election and for making sure that
02:41
everyone can take part in our democracy. Thank you to my agent Chris, my organiser Conran,
02:49
my digital lead Sam and the rest of my wonderful volunteer campaign team
02:55
who have worked their socks off across the whole constituency.
02:59
I couldn't have done it without you. This is not my victory, this is yours.
03:05
My husband Miles and my kids deserve a medal for putting up with a wife and mum who is so
03:10
often busy and absent. Thank you for supporting me to be part of a change our country so,
03:19
so desperately needs. I did this for our kids because I didn't want them to continue growing
03:26
up in this chaos. I came into adulthood under a Labour government who had my back
03:32
and I wanted the same for my team. Most importantly, thank you to everyone in
03:39
Morecambe and Lunesdale who put your trust in me. Whether you voted for me or not,
03:45
I promise to serve you faithfully and to be a strong voice. That's the ironic thing, isn't it?
03:54
And to be a strong voice for you in Westminster.
04:01
I will represent every town, village and hamlet. No one will be left behind.
04:09
Many people in Morecambe and Lunesdale will have voted Labour for the first time this year.
04:14
I want to especially thank you for your trust and I promise I am going to deliver the change
04:19
that you have voted for. Because the people have voted for change and for a Labour party
04:26
that is focused on the priorities of working people. There's no magic wand. We are realistic
04:34
about the scale of the challenges we face and we have the practical, common sense steps needed to
04:40
fix them. The Labour party is focused on what it will take to get Britain's future back.
04:48
Never again will we go back to the chaotic politics and sticking plaster solutions of the
04:53
populist right. I believe, we believe in public service. We will end the chaos and
05:02
the dysfunction in Westminster and together we can rebuild our country. Rebuild it with
05:09
economic security, cheaper bills, safer streets, the NHS back on its feet, secure borders and
05:16
better opportunities for our children. So thank you, thank you for your trust. I will endeavour
05:23
to repay it every day, as will every other single Labour MP. So starting today, let's rebuild Britain.
05:30
Thank you.
