00:00You know, there's a lot of work to do when you're a harbor master.

00:03Every time a ship comes in or out of the harbor, I have to stamp all these papers.

00:08Three papers for every ship.

00:12My arm can get pretty tired.

00:14You know, sometimes it'd be nice just to laze about and not do any stamping at all.

00:23But every time I think about taking a day off, I remember Theodore's day off.

00:29Oh, that was quite a day.

00:31You know, I think the stamping can wait.

00:33I want to tell you about that.

00:40Theodore was on his way to move Barrington Barge.

00:43Now, Theodore usually loved to pull barges.

00:46He got to work all by himself, without a ship or a pilot boat always telling him what to do.

00:50It was one of Theodore's favorite jobs in the big harbor.

00:53But today, Theodore was feeling tired.

00:57He'd been working very hard lately, moving Barrington back and forth across the harbor.

01:02Hi, Theodore, said Barrington.

01:04Barrington was always very happy to see Theodore,

01:07because the only way he can move around the harbor is when a tug button's on and pulls him around.

01:12Oh, hi, Barrington, said Theodore.

01:15Well, we may as well get started again.

01:22Theodore buttoned his towline onto Barrington and was soon pulling the barge across the harbor.

01:27He thought about all the fun he had on his days off during the summer at the beach.

01:32A day off, said Theodore to himself.

01:35That's what I'd like. I'd like a day off.

01:39Theodore felt the weight of the barge against his towline.

01:42Was Barrington even heavier today?

01:45Theodore put more puff in his pull.

01:48Theodore, said Barrington, can we go the long way around?

01:53Barrington loved when Theodore took him the long way around Willy's Island.

01:57Sorry, Barrington, said Theodore, but I'm really very tired today.

02:02Oh, that's okay, replied Barrington, and settled down for the ride across the harbor.

02:07All Theodore could think about was what it would be like to have a day off.

02:12He could just float around all day, and there'd be lots of time to hear stories from everyone.

02:17Yes, a day off would be great.

02:24The next morning, the Tugs gathered around the dispatcher to get their jobs for the day.

02:29Theodore yawned a great yawn.

02:32He hadn't slept very well, because he couldn't stop thinking about all the things he would do if he had a day off.

02:38The dispatcher gave the other Tugs their jobs, and then turned to Theodore.

02:42And Theodore, you'll have more barge duty today. Barrington is waiting in his dock.

02:47The dispatcher was starting to turn away when Theodore spoke up.

02:51Excuse me, sir. He began.

02:54Yes, Theodore, said the dispatcher.

02:57You see, well, I'm very tired today, and I think I really need a day off.

04:00It looked like Barrington had another load of big, long tubes ready to take to the oil refinery.

04:05I hope one of the other tugs helps him across the harbor soon, he thought.

04:09Theodore knew how much Barrington liked to get his work done on time.

04:13Finally, he arrived at the sandy beach.

04:16The beach, thought Theodore. Maybe I'll just float around here all day.

04:22Theodore! It was Petra, the pilot boat.

04:26She was coming towards Theodore, looking very serious.

04:29You're supposed to be resting today, said Petra.

04:32Please, return to your dock at once.

04:34Yes, Petra, said Theodore, and he turned for home, very surprised.

04:38He hadn't thought having a day off meant staying at his dock all day.

04:47No, this wasn't turning out to be the kind of day Theodore had imagined at all.

04:52It would be better, Theodore thought, if someone could tell him a story.

04:56But who? All the other tugs were off at work, and even the dispatcher seemed very busy.

05:02Hmm, thought Theodore, looking around.

05:07Donald Dock! I never get a chance to talk with him.

05:11I'll bet he has lots of stories to tell.

05:15Theodore drifted up toward the harbor, and then he swung around until he faced Donald Dock.

05:19Hi, Donald, said Theodore. I'm tired, so I have the day off today.

05:24Uh-huh, replied Donald.

05:27Uh-huh, replied Donald.

05:32Uh-huh, replied Donald.

05:44Uh-huh, said Theodore.

05:48Uh-huh, said Theodore.

06:57Enfin, les autres bateaux de tug ont repoussé lentement à leurs endroits au dock.

07:07Théodore a dit souriantement.

07:09Ah, bonjour Théodore, ils ont murmuré.

07:11Qu'est-ce que tu as fait aujourd'hui, Hank ?

07:13Emily ? George ? Fodak ?

07:15Il était très excité de voir tous ses amis.

07:41Nous avons tous travaillé ensemble et nous avons fait un bon travail.

07:45Êtes-vous le tug en charge ? Où avez-vous tiré ?

09:27Le lendemain, les tubes ont tous pris leurs places

09:29devant le dispatcher pour qu'ils aient leur travail pour le nouveau jour.

09:32Théodore a flotté vers le dispatcher.

09:34« Excusez-moi, monsieur ». Il a commencé.

09:37« Oui, Théodore », disait le dispatcher.

09:40« Monsieur, j'aimerais vraiment aller à Barrington aujourd'hui. »

09:43Le dispatcher a regardé Théodore.

10:43Vite, Théodore a appuyé sur la barge

11:11« Barrington, » a dit Théodore,

11:19et a dit, « Oui, s'il te plaît. »

11:22« C'est ce qui est si gentil à Barges, »

11:24a dit Théodore à lui-même.

11:26« Ils ne te disent jamais ce qu'il faut faire. »
