00:00AirAsia Aviation CEO Bo Lingham predicts that high airfares will persist amidst the world's
00:07post-pandemic travel boom. He said travelers may see a little reprieve next year as jet fuel prices
00:14decline and the airline's flight capacity rises, but said strong demand means pre-pandemic fare
00:20levels are unlikely to return anytime soon, Bloomberg reported. Bo said AirAsia's current
00:26load factor is around 90% which was unheard of pre-COVID times. Travel demand ballooned after
00:33the pandemic which made ticket prices surge faster than inflation in many parts of the world.
00:39However, a series of supply chain constraints from aircraft delivery delays to unplanned
00:44engine maintenance has left many airlines struggling to roll out enough flights.
00:50For AirAsia, the demand is underpinning ambitions to establish the world's first
00:55low-cost carrier network by 2030 using its Southeast Asia basis as a hub. Bo added that
01:01further afield routes will be serviced by Airbus SE's new long-range A321 models
01:07which can fly further at an economical cost. Natasha Biest, FMT News
