00:00The increase in fares by Singaporean travel agencies and tour buses justifies Malaysia's
00:07diesel subsidy rationalization initiative, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said today.
00:13Speaking at a mosque in Bukit Mertajam, Anwar said the companies had attributed their price
00:17hikes to a lack of diesel subsidies.
00:20Anwar said this shows that for decades, Malaysia's subsidies went to Singaporean companies and
00:25Thai fishing boats.
00:27He said that 3.8 million foreigners were benefiting from the subsidies which were paid for by
00:32Malaysian taxpayers.
00:34Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the number of cars Malaysia produced from
00:382012 to 2020 paled in comparison to the increase in diesel consumption as the fuel had been
00:44enjoyed by foreigners.
00:46In February, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Armizan Mohamad Ali said three million
00:52were being smuggled out of the country daily, causing losses of RM4.5 million per day.
