Katy Gallagher tells Liberals to 'come clean' on proposed APS cuts

Public Service Minister Katy Gallagher hit back at criticisms of an expanded APS, calling on Liberal senator Jane Hume to spell out where a Coalition government would make cuts.

00:12money to veterans? I mean this budget veterans payments go up by six billion

00:17dollars across five years because veterans are actually not waiting for

00:22their compensation payment because people are dealing with their claims.

00:26NDIA are you not going to support the 4,000 jobs in Defence and Home Affairs

00:31and the AFP that have been brought on for new functions? I understand that putting on

00:34these public servants is probably helping your electoral chances. It has nothing to do

00:38with my electoral chances. Absolutely two-thirds of the APS is not in Canberra

00:43so like that to me is offensive. It's got absolutely zero to do with that. This is

00:50about resourcing a public service properly to do the job. Well the PBO

00:55costed out the cost of 36,000 public servants. It came up with 24

01:03billion dollars. Yes I noticed that was a figure that the Leader of the

01:06Opposition was saying that he would say and you've got to you know stand by that

01:10figure and say that you're going to sack 4,000 people from Defence and Home Affairs

01:15and 4,000 people from Services Australia and veterans will not get their

01:20compensation payments as they experienced under you that's fine. If

01:25you're going to find 24 billion dollars in savings just be upfront about what

01:30will happen to public servants.
