00:00I can see a path, like, you know, door's still open, but you can kind of tell in his body
00:05language and just the way he was answering some questions, like, you know, maybe he hasn't
00:09processed it all yet, but understands it's a very realistic scenario that he's not back
00:16next season.
00:17Yeah, I, again, when the Bruins, I've noticed that when the Bruins don't have guys locked
00:22up like that at this point, it usually means they're done.
00:30And welcome into the Bruins beat presented by prize picks, go use that promo code CLNS
00:40to get up to a hundred dollars mashed on your first deposit.
00:44And we're presented by game time, go use that promo code CLNS to get $20 off your first
00:48purchase terms apply again.
00:50You want to go Celtics playoffs.
00:52You want to go to Red Sox game.
00:54You want to go to wherever you live, the closest sporting event, maybe a concert.
00:59Game time's the place to do it.
01:00Go use that promo code CLNS I'm Evan Marinovsky joined today by Joe Pajarilis from the hockey
01:06news.
01:07Joe, what's up?
01:08Not much.
01:09Just kind of decompressing after, after the season, there's a lot, you know, a lot to
01:14go through a lot to discuss and yeah, so just sort of dialing down from all that.
01:21And we were talking beforehand and we are, we didn't know this, we didn't plan this.
01:26Maybe you're following me.
01:27It'd be kind of weird if you were.
01:28But we are going, we are going to the same place this weekend for more.
01:32They were both going to be in the Poconos.
01:34How that's fate.
01:36That's fate Joe.
01:37That's good.
01:38Dude, like a remote, like a remote pod, like separate from this one, like just in the mountain
01:44scenery, the woods, everything like diving into everything else.
01:48I was gonna say we should go and try to spot a real Bruin.
01:51That's what we should do.
01:52Like, I think we've got one there before.
01:54Yeah.
01:55Okay.
01:56So, all right.
01:58So I was kind of taking some tips and advice from you.
02:01And if I would love to come across bear, cause it'd be great content.
02:04I mean, we might get killed, but if it's in the process of getting content, that's a damn
02:09good way to go.
02:10I will say I've only seen it once in 23 years that I've been out there, but I also was not
02:15actively searching for one in the process.
02:18So maybe it's just a matter of, you got to actually go looking for it, then waiting for
02:23it to come to you.
02:24So maybe that's what it, that's what it has to do.
02:28So we'll go looking for a bear.
02:29We'll do a podcast.
02:30Maybe we can have the bear give a comment for the podcast and I'm sure it'll understand.
02:35So that'll be, that'll be great, but it'll be fun.
02:37I'm excited.
02:38You know, I'll, I'll be texting you for tips.
02:41Hopefully there's service out there.
02:42So that should be, that should be very fun.
02:46This off season, it's going to be interesting.
02:49There's a lot of moving parts.
02:50There's a lot of cap space.
02:52There's a lot of guys futures up in the air.
02:53We'll get into all that.
02:55I'm curious, you know, the people have heard my spiel on what they should do this off season,
03:01what I think of the off season.
03:02I'm curious where you're at with this off season.
03:05What are you looking for them to do?
03:07What should they do?
03:08What do you think they'll do?
03:09Just kind of where you're at at the moment.
03:11Yeah, I think, I feel like it's, I mean, it's a lot easier said than done, but when
03:17I'm looking at the whole of like the NHL roster, obviously there's the whole question with
03:22Allmark, but whether he stays or goes, they're going to have Swaymin on a long-term contract.
03:28They're going to come to terms with that.
03:29That's got to be priority number one for them.
03:31So they'll have him in place in the playoffs.
03:33He's proven, you know, he can take a larger workload and sort of, you know, carry, you
03:38know, carry the mantle for the goaltending.
03:40It doesn't have to be an even 50-50 split.
03:43So I'm sure they'll find, if Allmark goes, I'm sure they'll find a competent backup,
03:47whether that's elevating Brandon Bussey or getting someone externally.
03:50I don't think that's going to be super hard to find, I think, to if Swaymin's the true
03:56number one.
03:57And then looking at the defense, I was thinking about it at the playoff series.
04:01I mean, they had nine guys on the playoff roster that were, you know, theoretically
04:05in the rotation.
04:07Grislyk kind of fell out.
04:09Forbert isn't really in the mix.
04:10They're both free agents, most likely gone unless they come back in a reserve role.
04:16I mean, yeah.
04:17Grislyk is definitely gone.
04:18I think Forbert's probably gone as well.
04:19Yeah.
04:20So, but the six that they ended up playing towards the end of the series, I think that's
04:26probably the six that you're, if you're the, you know, Jim Montgomery, I think those are
04:31the six you're most comfortable rolling with.
04:32And if they get a seventh or an eighth veteran or someone that they want to bring in just
04:36as depth or to test the group, I think those six defensemen, they'd be pretty comfortable
04:42rolling with to start the season.
04:44And so in my mind, the biggest thing is just addressing top six scoring, whether that's
04:50on the wing, especially if DeBrusque ends up walking, which it's seeming increasingly
04:54likely that he will.
04:56And if you really want to and have the room, getting a true number one center, obviously
05:01that's, there's not that many out there that you can reasonably get.
05:04So whether that's possible or not is another conversation.
05:07But I think, yeah, long story short, top of the line scoring, I think is the biggest need.
05:14And probably the most urgent one, when you look at the rest of the lineup too, that can
05:17kind of be filled in with, you know, little bits and pieces, those extra signings that
05:22you see, you know, maybe after the first week or so, when all the big, big guys are off
05:27the table.
05:28It's a hundred percent the biggest thing they need.
05:29You need, they need a number one center.
05:31They need scoring.
05:33I want to, you mentioned an interesting point on D, but how being comfortable with those
05:37six guys going into next year.
05:38And that's, you know, obviously Lowry, McAvoy, Lindholm, Carlo, and Wotherspoon and Peak.
05:43And I think it's interesting because like I view Wotherspoon as a really good seventh
05:48defenseman.
05:49Now he's shown obviously that he can step in and be that, you know, a sixth guy, third
05:54pairing left shot defenseman.
05:56If they had the money left over, and again, this is just if they have the money left over,
06:00I wouldn't hate like a Brendan Dillon.
06:02Like I wouldn't hate like a veteran left shot guy who you can probably get on, you know,
06:08I don't know, somewhere in the two, three, $4 million range who is reliable.
06:13And you could even pair with McAvoy to begin the season and have Lowry on that third pair
06:17and let him work his way up.
06:19And if, you know, if he supplants, you know, Brendan Dillon on the first pair, that's fine.
06:23And you put Dillon on the third pair.
06:25And there's other guys like that too.
06:26It's not just Dillon.
06:27And again, we'll see what the market kind of justify, you know, kind of dictates.
06:32But to me, like that's a, if you have money left over, like, I don't know if I'm fully
06:36set with the six they have, I would, I would like at least one reinforcement.
06:42But it's not my number one thing.
06:44Like I don't want them being like, all right, you know, we went and signed Brendan Dillon.
06:48Now we can't go out and get Elias Lindholm.
06:49Like I don't want that to be the case.
06:51But if you have the money, and you can make the money work, I'm all for it.
06:54Because I think, I think, I think they could use a veteran left shot D, especially to kind
07:00of settle down a guy like Charlie McAvoy at times.
07:03Yeah, I think that's a fair point.
07:04I think my, my overall point to that was just, you don't need to throw five to six
07:09million at.
07:10Oh, God.
07:11Yeah, no.
07:12Like, that's if you want to bring a veteran and you got the money, and then, yeah, so,
07:17so, you know, I agree with that.
07:19I think, yeah, it's not the most pressing need.
07:22And if they've got something left over, then why not bring someone in if you got the money
07:25to do it and just add more depth to that group overall?
07:29Well, that's the thing.
07:30It's interesting, because in past years, when they've had money, they've tried to find,
07:35you know, veteran-ish defensemen, who are sort of value adds that can sort of elevate
07:40their play.
07:41Like Derek Forbert was a good example of that.
07:42John Moore, a couple years ago, was an example of that.
07:46And neither really could, you know, take the, take the ball and run with it as top pairing
07:51guys.
07:52So I think, you know, if you can, and I don't think you need a top pairing defenseman.
07:55That's the biggest thing.
07:56You've got Lindholm, you've got Carlo, you've got McAvoy, and Lowry looks to be in the mix
08:01for it.
08:02Again, we'll see what he's like in camp next year, because, you know, like a good example
08:06is Conor Clifton in 2019, during that playoff run, was dynamite in the playoffs, and he
08:11didn't really play in the top four at all, but it was like, all right, that dude is dynamic
08:15enough where, like, you could probably stick him, you know, in the, in the lineup every
08:20night, and potentially he's a guy that could work his way into the top four.
08:24Didn't really happen in Boston.
08:26I think Buffalo is planning on that happening.
08:28We'll see if that, you know, takes place next year, but you know, the playoffs are all adrenaline,
08:33right?
08:34Like you can, you can do that, but can you do it over the course of a season?
08:36I think Lowry can, but I wouldn't hate him starting on the third pair.
08:42But again, if he's kicking ass and training camp and preseason games and stuff, it's like,
08:45all right, well, like that's a top, I mean, he's a top pairing guy going forward.
08:49It's just whether or not he, you know, begins the season next year as a, as a top pairing
08:54guy.
08:55Um, one guy whose future is definitely not, you know, a little up in the air is Lena Solmark
09:01and John Sweeney had some interesting comments on, uh, Oh Mark on Wednesday at the end of
09:05season presser.
09:07Um, basically, you know, saying, Hey, the tandem is great.
09:11I like the tandem, but you know, if we can make the money work great, but maybe Lena
09:15Solmark changes his mind on the trading front, which then kind of confirms he does not want
09:20to be traded at the moment.
09:21Um, you know, he has the, the, you know, no trade clause.
09:25Um, what do you think ends up happening with that?
09:29Yeah, it's tough to, I think, I think it depends.
09:34It's kind of like a, I don't know if catch 22 is the right word, but like you either
09:40have to see what they're going to do with the forward group and free agency if it gets
09:44that far or to determine like how much money they'll have left and if they can keep all
09:50Or is it a type of thing where they, if they can find a way to trade him, then that clears
09:55up even more money and that therefore influences the caliber of free agent that they get.
10:00I think if they can find a path to trade him, they will do so just based on the fact that
10:05if they're committing X amount of money in X amount of years to sway men and Oh Mark
10:11obviously he's 30 approaching 31.
10:15He can still play, you know, up to his standard for another, what, four or three to four years
10:21at least.
10:22Yeah.
10:23I'd say three to five plays out.
10:24Yeah.
10:25So if you're the Bruins, you can't really afford to hand him another massive contract
10:32of that many years, even if it's less money, just based on the way things play.
10:36I mean, I don't know, but just realistically speaking, if they want to maximize what they
10:43can get out of him early, you know, his value, you're going to have to do it at some point
10:48this off season with, you know, even though it's a year left and it may not be the return
10:52that a ton of people think he would deserve.
10:56It's better than letting them walk for nothing, especially if you're committing to sway men
10:59for the longterm as someone that can carry a bigger starters load.
11:05So I think if they can find an avenue, they trade him.
11:07And again, his trade list is only, I believe, 15 or it's going from 16 to 15 or something
11:13along those lines.
11:14So most of those teams might be in the West where they prefer to move him.
11:18But depending on the scenario, I mean, that's still half the league to work with.
11:24So I think if they can get it done, they'll do it in some way.
11:28I was going to say, I mean, you look at what Sweeney said yesterday, you know, if we can
11:32make the math work, we're going to have the best tandem, but if we can't, we're going
11:35to explore and Linus may come to us and change his mind.
11:38That may occur as well.
11:40Right now, he's really happy.
11:41We were very happy to sign Linus in a perfect world.
11:43We would keep the tandem because I think it's damn good, but we're going to explore opportunities.
11:47My phone is going to ring and I'm going to make calls.
11:49That's just what the job requires.
11:51I think he's got to go.
11:52I do.
11:53I know I mentioned this on the last Bruins beat, but I just money wise, potential wise
12:00with Swayman, like, and you have, the other thing is bussy, like bussy would need waivers
12:06to go down to Providence next year.
12:08And if he had to go through waivers, someone is claiming him 3000%.
12:13So that's the other end of it where it's like, you know, you can't have this much money tied
12:18up in goaltending, need a number one center, want to add to your forward core, potentially
12:24a defenseman.
12:25Like you got to round out your roster here.
12:26It was cool this year.
12:27I was pro tandem, um, because it was kind of a transition year.
12:30It was a weird year.
12:31Uh, you were seeing what you had up front.
12:33There weren't a whole lot of expectations.
12:36Go see if the tandem works and it did for the regular season.
12:39And then Swayman went on a great run in the playoffs.
12:41And that was that.
12:42It doesn't mean tandems could never work again.
12:44I think they've shown that it's good to split time and you keep goalies fresh and all that
12:49stuff.
12:50At the same time though, as I said, you need other pieces to the lineup.
12:53You need a number one center.
12:54Um, and another thing is like, it'd be cool to get draft capital, like be cool to pick
12:59somewhere in the first three rounds.
13:00That'd be nice.
13:01Um, and I just, you know, I look at teams like Colorado, they have a first round pick
13:06in 2024.
13:07Um, and that's a team that just got bounced and you know, might want to solidify things
13:13in net.
13:14Again, I don't know if they're on his, if they're on his list or not.
13:16Uh, Carolina, uh, New Jersey, like these teams have some draft capital and you know, cause
13:23then as we mentioned, you know, uh, uh, and Sweeney was asked about this, uh, trade returns
13:27for starting goalies are not always great.
13:30And you know, again, like if you can get, I mean, everybody thinks, Oh, a first and
13:35a top six forward with control.
13:37And like, that'd be awesome if you can do that, like nature or like Ty Anderson, he's
13:41mentioning Dawson Mercer with the devils.
13:44That's awesome.
13:45Like then you do that.
13:46But if it's just a first round pick or a second round or in a prospect or something like I'm
13:51okay with that.
13:52Cause you're still getting the cap space along with it too.
13:56And I think that's a great return as well.
13:58Yeah, absolutely.
14:00So uh, we'll see what ends up happening with that.
14:02I want to get to that.
14:03I want to get to DeBrusque.
14:04I want to get to the future of Montgomery in a second, but first quick word from our
14:07friends over breaking the action to tell you about my good friends over at prize picks.
14:12Prize picks is the best way to get action on sports and more than 30 States across the
14:18country, including California, Texas, and Georgia.
14:23Want to play alongside some of prize picks, favorite players like Meek Mill and Sugar
14:27Sean O'Malley.
14:29You can now find community plays under the promos tab of the app to view entries from
14:33some of the biggest names in the prize picks community each week.
14:37And prize picks even offers injury insurance so that your entries stay in play.
14:43Even if one of your players gets injured for basketball games.
14:46If you have a player who exits the game in the first half and does not return in the
14:50second, prize picks will have your back and not count that as a loss.
14:54Testing my skills on prize picks this basketball season is the most exciting way to play daily
14:59fantasy sports.
15:01If you have the skills, you can turn $10 into a thousand with just a few taps.
15:06Personally, with the Celtics going on a deep playoff run, I'm liking Jason Tatum more points
15:12and I'm liking Derek White more points too.
15:15I met him at Fenway Park earlier this year and I just have a feeling he's always gonna
15:20go off.
15:22So to get in on the action, download the app today and use code CLNS for a first deposit
15:29match up to $100.
15:30Again, download the app today and use that code CLNS for a first deposit match up to
15:38$100.
15:39Prize picks, pick more, pick less.
15:42It's that easy.
15:44Now back to the show.
15:45So obviously the Lena Solmark thing is up in the air.
15:49See what happens with that.
15:51You know, should be interesting.
15:52I don't know what's going to happen.
15:53I, you know, he's got to want to get dealt.
15:56I don't know if that's going to happen.
15:58They got to find some sort of trade partner for him.
16:01Jake Dubrusk.
16:02Actually, you know what?
16:03One last thing on the Olmark thing.
16:05I was debating whether or not we were going to do this.
16:08If you can't trade Lena Solmark, would you consider dealing Jeremy Swayman?
16:14No, I wouldn't.
16:18I think just looking at what they're trying to...
16:23You've got Posterknock under contract for eight years or I guess seven now, whatever
16:28the math is.
16:29McAvoy long-term.
16:30You've got so many guys that are core pieces that are a year or two older, a couple of
16:35years older.
16:38Swayman is a part of that core and I guess you could argue, you know, in the next three
16:41to four years of it, you know, it doesn't...
16:45If they don't accomplish anything, they might, you know, change plans from there.
16:48But I think when you have a goalie at his age who wants to sign long-term, you're able
16:54to sign long-term, has shown, especially in this past playoff run, what he's able to do.
17:01It's so hard to find a true franchise goalie at that age and with that, you know, potential
17:09that unless you really got a King's Ransom in return and were able to keep Allmark for,
17:15you know, the next three, four years, I don't see how that makes too much sense unless you're
17:20really trying to blow everything up and get as much as you could for him.
17:24I would say Swayman would get you a lot or at least he should given his age and everything.
17:29I think it'd be a dumb idea to trade him.
17:31He's 25, Allmark is 30.
17:34Again, wants to be here, proved he can play in the playoffs and elevate his game.
17:41You don't let that go.
17:43You don't.
17:44You don't do it.
17:45Obviously, yeah, he could get you a lot, but that's not the move you make.
17:49It isn't.
17:50And I've heard some rumblings out there of people, you know, they should trade Swayman.
17:54I just, I don't see it.
17:55I don't see it.
17:56I know that, oh, they're so great with goalies and this and that.
18:00You have Bussie there, you know, have him be the next Swayman behind Allmark.
18:05That's not that easy.
18:06You're just hoping that he becomes Swayman, which you already have.
18:10You already have.
18:12Right.
18:13Again, like eyebrow on the Red Sox trading Mookie Betts.
18:15Like this is, I'm not saying that Swayman is on the same level as Mookie Betts, but
18:19a player of that age who is that good, who has that kind of potential, who, you know,
18:24you're not trading him.
18:25You're just, you're not.
18:27You've already beat those guys.
18:28You've developed them on your own.
18:29Do not do that.
18:30Jake DeBrusque, speaking of someone that the Bruins have developed, Jake DeBrusque is up.
18:34He's a UFA.
18:37John Sweeney opened when he was asked about DeBrusque saying negotiations are a two way
18:41street, which is a nice little code word for saying guy's probably gone.
18:47The vibe I got from Sweeney on Wednesday was that he is probably gone, or at least he'll
18:52test the open market.
18:53And if the open market isn't, you know, what he hopes, then it'd come back.
18:56But like, he's definitely testing the open market.
18:59Where are you at with Jake DeBrusque?
19:00Yeah, I agree.
19:02I think that he's most likely gone, barring, you know, the situation that you just brought
19:07up.
19:08If maybe he's not liking what he's seeing or what he's getting.
19:11But at the same time, I think, not that I've looked super closely at the cap situation
19:15for other teams at this point in the off season, but I'd imagine there are other teams out
19:19there that'll give him what he's looking for.
19:23That seems like the Bruins kind of had their line and had their point.
19:28And even on Sunday when the players were sort of doing their exit, you know, media sessions
19:33and things like that, DeBrusque is like, you know, I can see a path, like, you know, doors
19:39still open, but you can kind of tell in his body language and just the way he was answering
19:44some questions like, you know, maybe he hasn't processed it all yet.
19:49But understands it's a very realistic scenario that he's not back next season.
19:55Yeah.
19:56Again, when the Bruins, I've noticed that when the Bruins don't have guys locked up
20:00like that at this point, it usually means they're done.
20:03Again, there's exceptions.
20:06Would you re-sign him though?
20:09For the right price, yes, I would.
20:13And I think it's tough to put a specific number on that.
20:18I guess, you know, maybe you could, but I think just it's tough because obviously in
20:24the playoffs, he can disappear, I mean, in the regular season, he can disappear at certain
20:28points of the season.
20:29He's the opposite of everybody, which is usually they disappear in the playoffs.
20:35He somehow finds that he's like, all right, now it's time to try.
20:37But yeah, yeah.
20:39So I, but again, it all comes down to, you know, how much he's going against the cap
20:45and how much that can relate to who else they can go get.
20:49Because I think if you have a true number one center and maybe, I don't know how hard
20:54does it, but you've got Marshan Impostornov in the wing already that can score a lot.
20:58He's a good like third, fourth winger that can, you know, drive plays, you know, can
21:04score when he's on.
21:06And that's sort of what you hope for.
21:07You can get to the playoffs and if he's able to turn it on the playoffs, that's what everyone
21:12cares about anyway.
21:14So I think what he can bring you now, if, if he wants, I don't know, an exorbitant number
21:21of years, an exorbitant amount of money per season, then I can see them being hesitant
21:27about that, especially if they feel they can get similar or better options on the open
21:31market.
21:32But then you run that risk of, can you bring in those guys?
21:34And that's sort of where the big conundrum lays.
21:37But I think for a reasonable price, I definitely would bring it back.
21:41Like two hours ago, Conor Ryan and I were recording poke the bear.
21:44And I said, you know, I made this exact same point.
21:47Like you can, you can go out and find his production in the free agent market.
21:53Like you can find a guy to get you 40 points, 45 points, high steel, like Tyler Toffoli.
21:57I'd love for the Bruins to go after Tyler Toffoli.
21:59It's a guy who can finish, he can score, all that.
22:03But do those guys bring the penalty killing abilities, the defensive zone abilities, abilities,
22:09the ability to win puck battles, speed, all those things.
22:12I don't know if you're going to find that all in one guy, like everybody loves Tyler
22:15Bertuzzi.
22:16And I think Tyler Bertuzzi was terrific when he was here.
22:19You know, he fit well with a guy like David Pasternak.
22:23You're going to be hitting the wall when there's defensive zone issues there, when there's
22:27a bad pass, when there's a missed coverage.
22:29And like, again, you take that if a guy is putting up 55, 60 points, like, all right,
22:33well, you know what, we knew that was coming.
22:35And that's okay if that's what you're okay with.
22:38But again, to me, my ideal contract for DeBrus could be 6 times 5.5 or at most 6 times 6.
22:46After that, that's when you start to get into, all right, if someone's going to give you
22:49seven or six and a half million per, good on them, but I'm not going to do that.
22:56That's kind of the line I draw.
22:58And I'm guessing the Bruins have a similar line where it's like, oh, we were aggressive
23:01with him, but we're not crossing that line.
23:04And I get where the Bruins are coming from in that sense, where it's like, this is a
23:06guy who has been inconsistent consistently over seven years, right?
23:10Like, it's great to produce in the playoffs.
23:13If he was at his potential all the time, right, he would be a 70 point getter, most likely
23:18like he's tools, everything.
23:20If he was consistently just producing, he'd be in that area and he'd be getting a huge
23:24contract right now.
23:25And I think it's, it's frustrating because it's like, you see those, those glimpses of
23:29offensive production, you see that stuff and it's like, oh, where is that all the time?
23:33So keeps him in that 5.56 range rather than moving up past that, which I think if he was,
23:39you know, if he did what he did last year, this year, it's like, all right, well, you're
23:43getting a big deal.
23:44And I just don't think he's, I don't think he's at that yet.
23:48I want to continue on the debris thing, just real quick, a quick word for our friends at

25:36Now back to the show.
25:37So you had a, you had a Jake Dabrowski point that I completely cut off with that ad read.
25:43What were you going to say on the topic of Dabrowski?
25:46Yeah.
25:47Oh, just that.
25:48I think while the Bruins would definitely benefit from bringing him back and you know,
25:53all the points you mentioned, just everything he can bring besides scoring and the type
25:56of player that he is when he's on.
25:58I also view him as a guy that could really benefit from a change of scenery and looking
26:04at the history of, you know, with the organization, obviously there was the whole trade request
26:09a few years ago, eventually came back.
26:11It seemed like last season, he really felt was the most comfortable.
26:16He felt he was playing the best he was playing until he got her the winter classic and that,
26:20and even in that game, he scored both goals.
26:22So he was sort of in top form this past season.
26:26He talked about how stressful it was for him and obviously he didn't start the way that
26:30he wanted to.
26:31And that kind of compounded itself.
26:33And eventually he found, found it all, you know, found his way during the post season.
26:38But I think with everything he's been through here, and he said he wants to stay.
26:42And I think if he got, you know, a long or relatively long-term contract, that would
26:46sort of make him feel more comfortable and maybe that would aid his performance.
26:51But I think if he gets a contract in another place, given everything that's happened with
26:56him here, I think I could see him doing really well just in a new situation and changing
27:02pace.
27:03A hundred percent.
27:04I could see him flourishing in a different setting or situation.
27:07I think the big reason you would like to keep him is, and this goes with any free agent,
27:11you don't know what a new free agent is going to be like in a new place.
27:14It takes time to adjust and DeBrust doesn't need any time to adjust.
27:17He's been here for seven years.
27:18So like, I completely agree with you on that in that sense of, you know, you, you know,
27:24he could, he's someone I think who would flourish in a new spot, in a new place, in a new locker
27:29room with new coaches and all of those things.
27:32I think it begs the question of like, what do you think and what do you want the top
27:38six to be next year?
27:39I mean, are there guys that you're looking at, are there free agents that you've been
27:42taking a liking to?
27:45Where are you at with kind of the top six right now?
27:48Yeah, I think it's, yeah, I've been looking a little bit at it.
27:54I'd say, I mean, some of the pieces are already there.
27:57It's really that number one center, if you can go out and get it.
28:01And if you lose DeBrust getting another winger, maybe a second winger as well, just someone
28:08else on top of that to beef that up.
28:10You mentioned Tyler Toffoli.
28:11I really, I agree.
28:13I think he would be great, especially with all the problems they had finishing the season
28:17upfront.
28:18I think he'd be a great remedy for that.
28:21As far as other, I mean, Elias Lindholm, he came up at the trade deadline.
28:24I think as far as guys that can, you know, have proven that they can play, you know,
28:29a top six center role, he's one of those guys that's realistically attainable.
28:34I think, I mean, I don't know if the Oilers are even going to try to trade him, but I
28:38know there's a lot of like fantasy talk about bringing in Dreisaitl and that would be very
28:43exciting, but I don't know if they have the capital to realistically pull that off.
28:50So yeah, sort of like the same thing, you know, with getting rid of all, you know, if
28:55you can do that and get a good price for him, great, but realistically, I don't see
28:59that happening.
29:00So I think Toffoli and Lindholm are two guys that are realistic and I think would fit very
29:05well with what Boston's doing and the way they're built and all that.
29:10Yeah.
29:11I mean, early on, I think if you, like, I think Zaka probably moves to the wing.
29:15I think you'd like to see Zaka move to the wing.
29:17He worked well there last year.
29:19And again, he could go down the middle if you need him to, but I think keeping him on
29:23the wing, putting him opposite Pasternak, putting whoever that number one center is
29:27in the middle.
29:28Natchez, Lindholm.
29:29Lindholm's an interesting case just because he's 30.
29:32But again, like the two-way play is there.
29:35The offensive upside is there.
29:37I mean, I know we had that one amazing year in Calgary playing with Kachuk and Goudreau.
29:40Probably going to get a lot of assists playing with David Pasternak.
29:44And Pasternak also proved to be a great setup guy this year.
29:46So I mean, Lindholm can finish.
29:50And then that second line, if, you know, if Coyle moves down to be the 2C, Marchand
29:56on the left, Tepolli on the right.
29:57I don't like, I don't think Coyle is the best center for Brad Marchand, but I think if that's
30:03what you got, that's what you got.
30:06You know, Tyler Tepolli on the right is sort of a finisher.
30:08And again, I would assume that line will move, those both of those lines will move around
30:12quite a bit.
30:13You know, does Matt Potra, where does he fit in?
30:16Like, does he have a great camp and they consider him for the top six?
30:19Does he begin in Providence?
30:20I think you have a lot of question marks there, but like, that's a much better top six.
30:25And I think the other interesting thing is like, if you kept Zaka down the middle and
30:28moved Coyle as the third line center, and then it's like, all right, well, you know,
30:33you're a little bit deeper down the middle.
30:35I don't know, you know, then I don't know what you do with Potra or Geeky or guys like
30:39that or Frederick.
30:42But you know, then you probably have to go out and get another top six winger instead.
30:45So I think the more attainable, you know, vision is Zaka on the wing.
30:51New center number one, Lindholm, Natius, whoever is number one, and then Coyle is number two.
30:56And then, you know, a guy like Tyler Toffoli on the right side of that second line.
31:00I think that's your best bet.
31:01I mean, that's a pretty good top six.
31:04Like that's an improvement.
31:05I don't think that's like a bridge top six either.
31:07I think you can safely rely on that top six for a couple years, you know, two, three,
31:13four years as Toffoli and Lindholm age.
31:15You kind of see where they're at, hopefully develop some more talent in and around that.
31:19And like, I think that's a, that's a team that's contending for a cup next year, you
31:23know, and we make it sound so easy.
31:26We've laid it all out.
31:27We, you know, do this, they're right to the top of the odds.
31:32But again, I think that if you can roll that out, I think you're in a good spot.
31:37It just comes down to what the price is and what all that is.
31:40I would love Dreisaitl, Leon Dreisaitl.
31:42That would be great for us and great content.
31:45I mean, my God, can you imagine?
31:48But the other one I would love is like Steven Stamkos.
31:51I would love Steven Stamkos.
31:52Like why not?
31:53You know, I mean, again, I think he goes back.
31:55What do you think?
31:56You think he goes back to Tampa?
31:59I mean, I know they just traded for McDonough back and that sort of like muddles the caps
32:05fate.
32:06I'd be, I'd be shocked if he doesn't.
32:08I mean, I feel like there's, it's, it's so uncommon.
32:12But there's always every, it seems like every franchise has that one or one to two players
32:17that they're just going to be there their whole career.
32:22And like the way he's still performing, he still, you know, can bring you so much and
32:27he means so much to that city and that organization.
32:30I'd be shocked if they don't find some way to keep it all, all together.
32:35He's synonymous with the lightning.
32:37I'd be shocked if he, if he didn't resign, but if he doesn't, like I'm, I'm fine with
32:40it.
32:41I would love the Bruins to go out and get him.
32:42I think he fits well.
32:43People were like, Oh, he's a pop, but he's a power play specialist.
32:46And I'm like, great, sign me up.
32:49What are you kidding me?
32:50Like that's, that's exactly what the Bruins need.
32:51Yeah.
32:52One for 16 against Florida, I think, or something along those lines.
32:54Yeah.
32:55He would, he would have helped that out.
32:56So again, I think that's the likelihood of that is low, but I would love to see it happen.
33:01I think it'd be a really cool story and he'd be a good veteran guy to get in that locker
33:06room.
33:07Joe, this has been awesome again.
33:09Thank you so much for coming on.
33:10What can the people look forward to from you when you get back, when we get back from hunting,
33:14looking for bears in the Poconos?
33:16Right.
33:17Yeah.
33:18I am.
33:19I mean, hockey news will still have content going through the off season.
33:22It'll be my first off season with the site, so, you know, we'll still be piecing stuff
33:26out and unrolling some new things, but I'll be at the draft in Vegas.
33:32Not that that's going to be of much interest to Bruins fans because yeah, I mean, unless
33:38a trade happens in the next month, then, you know, you never know, but I'll be out
33:41there.
33:42So keep, keep a lookout for that.
33:44And other than that, yeah, that's pretty much it.
33:47Well, Joe, it's always a pleasure having you on.
33:50We'll have you on more throughout the summer.
33:53And that's been this week's Bruins Beat.
33:54I'm Evan Marinovsky, Bruins Beat listeners.
33:56Have a great rest of your week.
34:08Take care.
