00:00All right, everyone, welcome back into another live edition of the Patriots beat podcast
00:08here on the CLNS media network presented by our wonderful friends over at prize picks
00:13in game time. It is Brian Hines back with always with Alex Barth, who was fresh off
00:19the garden or late night at the garden because the Celtics are NBA champions. We will get
00:24into that late night, late night. Brian, I left the sun was up. That's what you do when
00:29you cover a championship. You guys were there like four or five in the morning. It looked
00:34like I left. A lot of them were still there. I was one of the early leavers. I left it
00:37like probably 430 ish. There were still people outside celebrating, too. It was awesome.
00:42It took me back to, you know, I'm sitting I'm standing there on the floor. It's all
00:46the confetti around. It's just there's a there's an energy in the building that I can't describe
00:50when you're like there the night of a championship. And then, you know, I walked out and the sun
00:54was up. It reminded me as cheesy as this sounds of walking out of Mercedes Benz in Atlanta
01:00after fifty three. And I had all my confetti with me and I'd covered the title and all
01:05that. And it's like, man, Pat's got to get back. I need to do this again. So they do.
01:11They do. I mean, Drake May was in attendance last night. He was at the garden. What a what
01:15a first month for Drake May. He gets the Tom Brady ceremony and then he gets to see
01:19a Celtics NBA finals championship. So he's been fully in the midst of Boston, Boston
01:28championship blur his first month here. So he's got to get us back. But we do have a
01:33little Patriots stuff we can get to before we talk about the Celtics, because they did
01:38make a roster move to roster moves yesterday, even though. Oh, Taylor, just no, no, Taylor.
01:45Oh, I want him to join us. Taylor can come talk. But all right. They did make two roster
01:52moves on the kind of even though they're broken for the spring here, they released guard Ryan
01:58Johnson, who was a tryout player at rookie minicamp, and then he signed on before OTA
02:06started. So they released him and then they signed Liam Fornadel, who was a UFL guard.
02:13So a couple of switches on the interior there. He played for the D.C. Defenders this year.
02:18So some shuffling up there on the offensive line and we can now sign UFL players who we've
02:24talked about so much. So we'll get into a little bit of that, but just anything on that
02:29that guard shuffling there from from yesterday. Yeah, it was, you know, they're trying to
02:36get their bases set. I think you're going to see a lot of teams do this. You obviously
02:39want to have a full roster as you go through minicamp and you can't sign those UFL guys,
02:44but you get a chance to evaluate them and, you know, see if there's anybody you want
02:48to bring in. And they couldn't have added Fornadel any sooner than they did. And obviously
02:53they needed a roster spot to do it. So obviously they feel like for one reason or another,
02:58for whatever reason, he's a better fit. Now we got Mike joining us. Let me finish the
03:04take and we'll bring them up. Obviously for whatever reason, I think Fornadel is a better
03:09fit for them than Johnson was. He was a little bit bigger, 6'5", 3'14". Does have, out of
03:15James Madison, 20-21. Spent the last few years playing in the UFL and in Canada. So he's
03:20got a good amount of professional experience, relatively speaking, compared to a UDFA in
03:27Johnson. So it's a little more experience up front. You know, I wouldn't expect him
03:31to make the team. He'll compete for practice squad spot, but as we'll get to in a little
03:35bit, it does kind of signal the opening of the floodgates for the UFL.
03:40Yep. All right. Should we bring these guys in? All right. This is, this is an off-season
03:45show right here. Random guests. A little bit, tiny bit. I honestly know, like I got home
03:53at like five. I did a phoner with Matt McCarthy cause he does the overnight when they went
03:57until 6am. Right? Yeah. Marathon McCarthy. And then like, I, I really, like I was awake.
04:02I wanted to sleep and I was awake. So I like started watching a movie and I fell asleep
04:07for a little bit, but then I had to get up cause I had stuff to do today. It's fine.
04:12You only win a title once every couple of years. Okay. That's very true. The reason
04:16we're here is me and Taylor are going to prerecord a Pat's daily episode for later on today.
04:21And Taylor accidentally jumped into your, into your box. So then you texted us and you
04:24were like, Oh, I'm coming on. I was like, Oh, I'm coming on too. Let's go. It's complete
04:28muscle memory. I saw the live and just in my head, I was like, that's for me. And it
04:32was just like, Oh no, Oh no, no, no. But you know what? Why not? The fam's back together.
04:36Well, do you have some wonderful thoughts on Liam Fornadel signing? The hell is that?
04:42Great pickup. XFL, right? Are you a UFL guy? Yeah. I saw that like last night or something.
04:47I, yeah. No thoughts. More interior lined up. Maybe did Brian Johnson get hurt or something?
04:53What's the deal there? Cause I think it was an upgrade or I think it just wanted a veteran.
04:56Well, here's the thing. So he's played in the UFL. He's played in the CFL.
05:00Taylor, are you going to watch both? Yeah. All right. So if we do that,
05:05then we're going to have to do like our draft thing where every Wednesday we get into obscure
05:10football leagues. Cause I'm just, no, I'm just asking if you're going to like you,
05:13cause you do a great job of familiarizing yourself with all these players. Like every
05:16time they sign somebody, I feel like you have a clip or two ready. So with Liam Fornadel,
05:21like, are you going to go get clips? And if so, are you just going to do the UFL? Are you going
05:25to try to find a CFL clip as well? No, honestly, if I can find film on these guys, I'll definitely
05:29watch it. Um, I just honestly don't know where, cause like in previous seasons, I never really
05:34had to. So I don't really know where to access the tape, but if I can find it, you help me out.
05:38I will, uh, I'll get some clips. Do they make that available? Is UFL film just available?
05:44I think they like archive all their games somewhere. So you may be able to just get the
05:48TV copy, at least for him. I don't know about Canada. We got a great metric system. Think of,
05:53uh, Brady on the TV copy the other day, he had a quick little blurb in the second quarter of
05:57that game and it wasn't bad. He gave out the trophy. He's all in on Fox, Adrian Martino.
06:05He did some quick little breakdown on how they needed to like open up the passing game.
06:09You could just hear in his voice that he was kind of holding back. I'm like this dude,
06:12I texted you guys in the chat. I was like, as soon as a quarterback gets just like destroyed
06:18or like there's a bad, you know, roughing the passer call, this man is going to go in
06:22and I can't wait for it. We're going to get some real good Brady rants. I feel like,
06:25well, he also, I had to be frustrated with just that level of football.
06:29Yeah. Yeah. Right. Right. I had to be in a job. Right. That's kind of what I felt like
06:35his case cook has breakdowns and everything. Yeah. Yeah. I need his takes on case cook is in,
06:39um, what's his, uh, uh, uh, Louise, um, Louise Perez, he's played in every single
06:48AAF XFL USFL UFL. He's played in like every single one, but the NFL. Yep. And so anytime I've seen
06:56like some other league, I feel like that Perez dude is always playing. He's like the greatest
07:02D two quarterback of all time. And he's just making a living every spring. Somebody needs
07:06a quarterback, but man, I would love to see him just get him into a camp. Let this guy put on an
07:11NFL helmet. Cause it feels like he's earned the right to do so. Let's say, let him start the
07:15Superbowl, but they should let him start the Superbowl. No, I wouldn't go that. Why not?
07:22All right. Well, this was fun, gentlemen. Yeah. Enjoy daily coming up. We'll see everyone at the
07:27parade Friday, right? Right. Yeah. I think I gotta go. I think I gotta go. Yeah. I gotta go.
07:33Yeah. All right. We'll be there. All right. See you guys. All right. Later. All right, fellas.
07:40I was fun. All right. That was, that's the off season for you right there.
07:44That is, yeah. It just helped us kill five minutes. That was great. Surprise guest pop in.
07:48So, um, what were we even talking about? Offensive line, right? Offensive line.
07:54Yeah. Liam for Nadelle. So, uh, we can actually pull up, we have a list of some veteran free
08:01agents that are still out there right now and we can hit on the offensive line. Now we're out there
08:05because we've been talking about it. Uh, cause this is still the big concern we have leaving
08:10minicamp last week. It's the offensive line. And to recap, like the last two days of minicamp,
08:16we saw them bump Mike and when new back inside Caden Wallace, who again, they drafted and they
08:21told us this plan that he was going to play. Left tackle is either going to be Caden Wallace
08:25or Chuksa core for he now, uh, Wallace slid back over to the right side, which is where he played
08:30at Penn state, Michael, when you moved inside. So they're mixing and matching these guys.
08:35I know Barth, you were kind of saying they're, uh, panicking or freaking out now.
08:40I didn't go that far. So scrambling, scrambling. Okay. That was, that was
08:47panicking. But I think scrambling is a fair term.
08:50So maybe there is, it's not the best list of names as you can imagine on June 18th. It wasn't
08:58even the best list of names back in March when free agency opened, but there are some veteran
09:03offensive tackles out there. Uh, David Bakhtiari kind of highlights the list. That's the name.
09:09A lot of people know, but DJ Humphries, Charles Leno, Dwayne Brown, Donovan Smith was, you know,
09:14the chiefs left tackle last year. Cam Fleming is a name who, you know, we're pretty familiar with
09:19here. He's been in Denver, but, uh, are you open to any of these? It's obviously a flyer at this
09:26point. These are older veterans. A lot of them like Bakhtiari has been, you know, battling injuries
09:31and years past he's played like 12 or 13 games over the last three years. But are you open to
09:36any of these guys, uh, as a training camp flyer to maybe see if one guy sticks here?
09:41Well, first off, who's that below Cam Fleming?
09:46Prince Tega Winoga. I just want to make you read it. Um, is that the doctor?
09:52No, no, he retired. Uh, uh, Laudrey, uh, Tardif some, I, I screwed that up. Um,
09:58I, I butchered that now I have to look at it. I had to throw a, I had to throw a name back at
10:04you then. If that's a good job. Yeah, I know. Well played Lauren Duvernay Tardif or Tardif.
10:10I think cause he's French Canadian. Um, so it'd be Laurent Duvernay Tardif. There's the
10:15high school AP French. Um, yeah, as for this, like, I, I think they're in trouble at tackle.
10:20If this is the route we're going to go. I, so I've said this, you want to bring in Bakhtiari
10:24on a minimum contract, no guaranteed money just to see where he's at. I guess there's no harm,
10:30but this is a guy who's played 10 games total in the last three years. His knees are not in good
10:34shape. He's older given his level of play. Last time he was healthy. You would think that if he
10:40was at that level, one of these teams that was more familiar with him would have signed him,
10:45whether that be the jets with Rogers going back to the Packers, they just used a first round pick
10:49on a tackle Elliott Walsh familiar with them still hasn't called them. Right. He might not
10:54know. He might know something. So, you know, I look at DJ Humphries. I look at Charles Leno,
10:59but those are real like last case scenario. If they go veteran offensive lineman to me,
11:04I think it's a guard. I think it's, and again, that's where they continue to shuffle.
11:08That's where they continue to scramble. And it's, it's not an amazing list of guards,
11:14but it's better, I would say than the tackle list. And there's some familiarity,
11:19Justin Pew, who also can play some tackle. I mean, he's a guard, but he, he, he played tackle
11:24early in his NFL career. Um, is that this is guards. I don't see him on here. I did my research.
11:35Or is he listed as like a center or something on there? Shouldn't be
11:39Corey. Linsley is like retiring, right? Yeah. That's why I try not to spot track for this
11:44stuff. Cause sometimes they're all over the place, but yeah. Cause they still
11:46James Ference on there. James Ference. Um, do they just have like an OL category?
11:54Um, yeah. Offensive line. Yeah.
12:01Nah, it's just going to be all the guards and tackles. Anyway. I know he's free agent. I,
12:05I know he is. So Justin Pew, you know, he, he played last year. He started some games
12:11for the giants, but he was there with McAdoo. So there's a lot of familiarity.
12:15Mark Lewinsky started some games last year. Trey Turner, Pat F line,
12:20Tyree Phillips. Like these are guys that were starting in the, in the league last year.
12:24Unlike most of those tackles, the one exception being Donovan Smith, who was
12:28atrocious. So I think if they signed somebody, they signed one of these veteran guards with
12:33the hope that, you know, are you going to get 17 games out of a guy like Justin Pugh at his age?
12:37Probably not. Can you get eight games out of Justin Pugh before Cole strange comes back?
12:42If you know, Nick Leverett doesn't show you enough. Michael Jordan doesn't show you enough
12:45at Tony Omafi late Robinson. Don't show you enough. That's maybe a little more.
12:52Realistic. So I look at the guard position more in the tackle position is where they would add
12:56externally. Could any of the tackles bump inside? Do you think like they kind of did that with Riley
13:03reef? Who? Yeah. I mean, probably I, I think if you're going to do that Leno, I think has some
13:09experience playing guard. If I remember correctly, cam Fleming has played a little bit of guard,
13:13but I don't know. Just it's enough with the moving pieces. Yeah, sure. That's another guy
13:19put players in their positions. It's another guy who you have to move around. And you mentioned
13:24Cole strange. We could say Mike Reese had it in his Sunday notes that it was a torn
13:29patellar tendon which is what he was dealing with. He heard it in camp. Remember he missed
13:34all the camp and then he came back and then it was a full tear there late in the season,
13:39week 13, 14, whatever it was. So he's, as we expected, he's going to be out a while. That's
13:44a pretty serious knee injury there. So you have city. So he's going to be one of your guards here,
13:50but the other guard is kind of up in the air. And if it's Michael Winnow, then your other tackle
13:55could be up in the air because it's Caden Wallace and chooks the core for,
13:58as you're left in your, in your right tackle there. So, uh, unfortunately again,
14:03like not much free agents, I would say like, maybe the box. Yari one is weird because
14:11if he had something left, you would imagine a team, as you said, like Elliot Wolf or like Aaron
14:17Rogers would have brought him in by now, but maybe bring them in. And if it works, you have a, a good
14:23David back to Yari. And if it doesn't work, then you're still with chooks, the core for where
14:27that kind of back to square one. So maybe that's how they see that. And then they go one of these,
14:31uh, kind of veteran routes there on the offensive line, but, uh, we can't hit on some other
14:36positions. Uh, let's, let's do kicker. Let's do kicker right away. Uh, cause that's the UFL
14:42here for your Brian, Brian, the what? We're gonna pull the bandaid off for you. I know
14:45you don't want to go down this road. Um, uh, I've kind of accepted it at this point. And,
14:51um, cause we've been talking about the UFL kickers a lot and they can't officially sign
14:57now that the UFL, uh, is over with the championship game was on Sunday. Unfortunately, Jake Bates
15:03signed right away. He was, he went to Detroit. He got a two-year deal too. Didn't he? Yeah. I think
15:08he got some guaranteed money. Yeah. So, uh, but there are a few other names out there that Patriots
15:14could be interested one with some familiarity with Bryce Berenger from their time at Michigan state.
15:19So I know you had the names, you wrote something up on 98, five, uh, sports hub.com. Everyone can
15:24check out as well, but who are those kind of UFL kickers that you were looking at beyond Jake Bates?
15:29So yeah, first I just, first off real quick on Bates. I know everybody was like drooling
15:33over him. Like he was good. Definitely. He was not the only good kicker in the UFL. If you take
15:38out Ryan Santos, so who was a backup who had to come in late and struggled outside of him,
15:45UFL kickers hit 85% of the field goals this year, the NFL rate the last two years, 85%.
15:51I mean, these are NFL caliber kickers. It's not the level of play. Doesn't you're putting the
15:55ball between the uprights, same, same size ball, same size, upright, same length field, all that.
16:01So I do believe this translates. Uh, and, and the number one name I look at is Matt Coughlin,
16:07who's been a really good spring kicker. The last two years, he was 18 of 19
16:13last spring in the USFL with new Orleans. And then you went 16 of 18 this year,
16:19including a perfect 12 of 12 from inside of 50 maxed out at 57. And like you alluded to Brian,
16:24uh, Bryce Beringer was his holder, at least part of his career in college.
16:28So there's a level of familiarity. And that means something like the kicker holder chemistry
16:32is important because, you know, different kicks guys want, you know,
16:34lean the ball this way, tilt it this way. I want to place here. I want to place there. So
16:39it would help him get up to speed a little bit more. So he's one name to know that, you know,
16:43if I were to pick from the remaining guys, I'd probably go Coughlin, um, Andre, uh, Sismet,
16:49who was one of the top kickers in the draft a couple of years ago from Syracuse.
16:53He went 19 of 21, but kicked mostly in a dome as he didn't college. So this is a guy that spent
17:00most of his career kicking in a dome. I don't know how, how interested the Patriots would be.
17:03And then the final two guys were Jonathan Garibay and JJ Molson. Molson's actually
17:07kicked in the NFL before he's with the Packers. Um, the, they're both very accurate. Garibay
17:15only missed once on 14 kicks and it was blocked and it was a breakdown in protection,
17:20but he didn't attempt to kick longer than 48. So, you know, if you're looking for that kind
17:24of just short, accurate guy, again, that Nick Fulk, Garibay's the guy, but I, you know, I think
17:29all things considered Matt Coughlin is probably the best kicker left from the UFL and, and still
17:34good. Like hardly consolation prize. Yeah. He was really good at Michigan state. I was just
17:38looking them up. He made 137 straight extra point attempts. He made all of them at the time. This,
17:44I don't know what he finished with at the time this article was posted, which was in October.
17:49He made every single extra point. Well, the extra points in college are still short. Oh yeah.
17:53They're still short. I, I, you know, I, I was looking at his numbers. It, they, they skew
17:59cause he was a five-year starter and he really wasn't good his first two years. But after that,
18:06he seemed to really, uh, you know, find his rhythm and he, and he finished really strong.
18:12So a guy that's been getting better the last few seasons for sure.
18:16Yep. Yeah. And that familiarity again with, with Behringer would be, uh, huge to add or
18:22kind of keep, you know, Behringer and Ryland were pretty familiar with each other. So you
18:26get another guy who Bryce would be familiar with and with there, but yeah, it's, you'd assume,
18:33I don't want to say assume cause they have two kickers, but it wasn't an overly impressive
18:37sprain I'd say from either Ryland or Joey Sly, right? Like Ryland miss three or four of his
18:43kicks in mini camp. Even the makes were pretty close and you know, Joey Sly went eight for eight
18:49in his opportunities, but his makes were kind of close to as well.
18:53One clipped the flag on top of the upright. Another was, you know, snuck in the other
18:59opposite upright. So he was kind of, you know, spraying them a little bit too,
19:02even though they were still going in. So, uh, that's a underrated position that they didn't
19:07address in the off season beyond, you know, just the late signing of Joey Sly there after he got
19:12cut from the commander. So, um, maybe something they address and that could even continue.
19:18Like last year we saw three or four kicker trades at the roster cuts, including Nick Folk. So
19:23maybe that's something, even if they roll with Ryland and Joey Sly to open a training camp and
19:29open the preseason, maybe if the performances kind of continue from the sprain, now you're
19:34looking at, I know there's a few teams out there who drafted a kicker. Now they have two kickers,
19:38maybe one, you know, teams are going to have to release maybe trade. There's going to be
19:42kicker movement out there, uh, from other teams as well. Cause right now there's no vet. The only
19:47veteran free agent kicker with any experiences, Randy Bullock and I guess Brandon McManus,
19:52but they're not going to sign him. Um, so Randy Bullock didn't work with, uh, Tom Quinn and the
19:57giants, right? He was after him. I think so. He might, he might've, um, the one thing I will say.
20:03So I, again, I did this, this math over the weekend, not including the teams with kickers
20:08who are part of the international pathway program. There's 12 teams. In addition to the Patriots who
20:13have multiple kickers in those teams are teams to watch when you're the Patriots. Cause like you
20:18said, like they could be on the other side of a Nick full thing. Specifically. I look at the
20:22teams that have rookie kickers, uh, in Jacksonville, Riley Patterson is a good kicker. Riley Patterson
20:28is a good, solid NFL kicker. And they use the six round pick on cam little. He was the first
20:32kicker off the board. So that stands out to me. Um, the, the lions have like three guys.
20:39They have three, right? So there's, there's a couple of teams with three. It's the lions,
20:43the Packers and, Oh no, sorry. It's just the lines and the Packers. Um, but they have baits
20:51who based on his contract sounds like he's going to make it. They've got him James Turner. He's
20:54a UDFA, but they also have Michael Badgley. Who's been like a solid NFL kicker. The one I'm really
20:59interested in though. Cause I think it's his, you know, the pay, the Jaguars one might be a battle
21:04between cam little and Riley Patterson. I feel like little is a draft picture of the inside track.
21:08Uh, you know, Josh Cardi is going to win over Tanner Brown. Will Riker is going to win over
21:13John Parker Romo. Those are in, uh, those with the Rams and Vikings.
21:17I think I know where you're going. Yeah. So, so anyway, I'd say the two I'm watching.
21:22Yeah. So we'll first the lions, Jake Bates, Michael Badgley, like that's legit.
21:26But then, yeah. So the Panthers have Eddie Piniero, who's legit NFL kicker. Like he's a
21:31good player. And then as a UDFA, they signed Harrison Mivas from, uh, uh, Missouri. He's
21:36got a massive leg, thicker kicker. Like you said, he's like two 50. Um, and he can play.
21:41He, I thought he was going to get drafted. I should have been drafted. So they're not going
21:44to keep both those guys. That's I'm certainly going to be watching Carolina. Now maybe Mivas
21:49just comes out and sucks in camp and he's not an NFL kicker. That's possible with all these guys.
21:53But that's one. I think you really look at, cause that that's one that feels really 50,
21:5850 between two NFL caliber kickers. Like again, Joshua Cardi and Tanner Brown with the Rams.
22:03I don't know what Tanner Brown's an NFL kicker. I don't. So there's two kickers there. Somebody's
22:07going to get cut, but I don't know that Tanner Brown is the answer to the Patriots problems.
22:11At that point, I might keep Joey Sly say for John Parker Rome over as well. Riker in Minnesota,
22:17Harrison Mivas or Eddie Piniero, you end up with either of those guys. You have a starting kicker,
22:21Jake Bates or Michael Badgley. You end up with either of those guys. You have a starting kicker.
22:25Yeah. So Panera 25 to 29 last year, 86%. And the year before that he went 33 of 35,
22:3294%. So he's like NFL caliber leg. So maybe that's a, what'd they get from Nick Fulk?
22:39Seventh round, seventh round pick six round pick. I think maybe just trade that pick and you get a
22:46new kicker there. So, uh, that's a position definitely to watch. We'll be watching it
22:50closely throughout training camp, but maybe there's some, uh, roster transaction there.
22:54Oh, sorry. It was the seventh round pick. You're right.
22:56Seventh round pick. Okay. And maybe I think the Titans have two kickers.
23:00They resigned folk, right? Yeah. I think they have another one. I'm pretty sure. Cause I was
23:05doing this research over the weekend and I'm looking, Oh yeah. They have, um, um,
23:10Brayden Naverson from Arkansas. He's a rookie. Okay. So may or not from Arkansas from NC state.
23:16So maybe call it tides about Nick Fulk. Maybe Nick Fulk it's back. Just make that swap again.
23:23Um, but yeah, we'll, we'll be keeping an eye closely on the kickers there, but,
23:28uh, before we maybe talk about some other positions that could be addressed here, let's,
23:32uh, let me tell you about prize picks America's number one fantasy sports app with more than 5
23:37million members, which is the most fun and exciting way to get in on the action. While you
23:41watch all your favorite sports and players, you just pick more or less on two or more player stats
23:46for a shot to win 100 times your cash. And while the finals are over in the Celtics are
23:52champions, the hoop action does not stop over on price picks because women's hockey is a
23:57because woman's basketball is just getting started. And young stars like Caitlin Clark
24:01and angel Reese are looking to make names for themselves, which they've been doing a pretty
24:05good job of alongside greats like Brianna Stewart. And you could win up to 100 times your cash
24:10watching them all out. I'm certainly picking Caitlin Clark more than two and a half,
24:15three pointers moving forward because she is a bucket out there. So download price picks today
24:20and use code CLNS for a first deposit match up to $100. Again, download the app today and use
24:26code CLNS for a first deposit match up to $100. Pick more, pick less. It's that easy over on
24:34price picks. So touch on offense line, touch on kickers, any other kind of position that you're
24:41looking forward to here that maybe there's some movement at by the time we either get into
24:46training or we start training camp, or maybe we're in training camp like Zeke Elliott halfway through
24:52last year and they're looking to maybe add a body at another position. I mean, I think
24:56adding a running back should certainly be a possibility. Um, but that'll that, yeah,
25:00you can pull that up. That that'll come later. That will come into camp at this point. These
25:04guys, they're not, I mean, maybe they add a, a UFL back. Maybe CJ Marable comes back again to be a,
25:11you know, a camp back. But if, if they're going to sign, you know, one of these guys that can
25:16actually be a contributor at cam acres, just looking at this list, right? Guy like that
25:19Kareem hunt. I think that comes into camp. Um, I'll say this kind of in the inverse. I know I've
25:25been pounding the table for them to sign a corner and I still would like to see them sign Stephon
25:29Gilmore, even though he told people at the Brady event, he, you know, hasn't really talked to
25:33Patriots. Um, I still like Gilmore just for the veteran leadership, but I don't know. I feel,
25:38I feel good. I feel good about the cornerback room. I like, I'm not gonna, I wouldn't knock
25:43it if they signed another corner, but I think they might be in good shape with the guys they
25:47have. They're young, they're young, but that's not the worst thing in the world right now.
25:52So they may actually be good at corner. Yeah, definitely encouraging spring from
25:56Alex Austin, Isaiah Bolden. Yeah. Even, you know, we saw a little of Marcellus dial,
26:02he was limited, but you know, he, he showed some good stuff. Even like a guy like Mikey
26:05Victor was impressive. Victor all, literally all of them had their moments. Mark Wilson.
26:11Like you walked away from that. Definitely more comfortable, uh, in that corner back room now,
26:17a long way to go. Right. We'll have the competition ramp up. We'll get to see him
26:21practice against AJ Brown, uh, Devante Smith against that Eagles joint practice. So, so
26:27they'll get some good work, uh, in there. So maybe that's when a, a free agent addition comes,
26:32but I think for, you know, a draft and develop team that wants to play the young guys, I think
26:35they'll might be pretty comfortable walking into camp, uh, with that current group, but I'm kind
26:40of with you adding a running back. I feel pretty confident or Mondra and Antonio Gibson as the one
26:44to punch, but, uh, still like they might need just like a third caliber back for a team NFL
26:52caliber back for a team that wants to run the ball a lot. And we didn't get to see,
26:56you know, in those non-padded practices, you know, you can't make any assumptions over the two
27:00UDFA running backs. They have, uh, we've seen a little of Kevin Harris in like years past,
27:06but he's more of a power back. So he's going to be someone you want with the pads on, but
27:10I could still see them maybe adding a veteran back. I know Kareem hunts, probably the easy
27:14connection coming from Cleveland, but the off the field stuff doesn't seem like, you know, that,
27:20that would be a fit. I think Matt Breda might be a good fit, like scheme wise. And that zone scheme,
27:25you know, he, he's like a fast, fast rusher. He can get outside the tackles and I've always like
27:31Jarek McKinnon. I don't know if he kind of overlaps Antonio Gibson too much at this point,
27:37but I've always liked, I don't think that you can overlap with the guy who's skill sets that
27:41well-rounded at that point. You're just a solid back, just an all around good back at that point.
27:46Yeah. I've, I've always liked McKinnon, like a good pass catcher, a good, um,
27:51pass protector. He can run when you need him kind of like a JV James White, almost in a way that I
27:57get that bias from Jarek McKinnon. So I could see them adding a back, maybe they bring back
28:02Patriots legend, Lynn Bowden down there as well. Josh Kelly. He's more of like a, he's more like a
28:09Kevin Harris, kind of a short power back, but there, there are some NFL caliber backs out
28:14there they could add, uh, late in the year, but, uh, any other position catch your eye
28:19that you want to look at? Um, I don't know. I think that's pretty much it. I mean,
28:24I feel good safety, like Jalen Hawkins was a nice surprise. Yeah. Um, inside linebacker,
28:30you know, once they get to buy and talkie talkie back out there, that's, you know, the unit they'll,
28:36they'll roll with, they're good on the D line. It's really just the offensive line and maybe
28:42running back. I mean, they have tons of wide receivers. They certainly don't need a wide
28:45receiver. Okay. Some of it too, is, is just, it's, there really is not a lot of talent right now.
28:54There's not a lot of talent available in free agency, which even for like, and you're saying,
28:59well, duh, it's, it's, it's June, even for this time of year, it feels like there's not a lot of
29:02talent available. I don't know why that is, but that it is. So it's not so much that like, Oh,
29:07you know, they couldn't use help with these spots. It's, I don't, you know, you mentioned
29:11the defensive line. I, I don't really think they're adding anybody that gives them something
29:15they don't have that that's going to give them a real chance at this point, you're just adding
29:18for depth. So yeah, I don't, I just don't see the need for an addition there. Yep.
29:25The one guy I'll still come back to, even though we just said Jalen Hawkins,
29:29Justin Simmons is still out there and he's just such a good, I think there's a reason he's still
29:34unsigned. Not a, I don't want to go to camp reason. I wonder where he's at physically.
29:39Okay. So maybe there's something, something more with that. Cause yeah, he is a very good player
29:44or he was last year for Denver, the last few years for Denver. So maybe there is something
29:47more there, but yeah, Jalen Hawkins has been a pretty pleasant supply surprise there throughout
29:52the spring. So maybe they're just confident with him back there to compliment Duggar and
29:58Peppers. And that's just how they kind of roll in that safety room. So that's the free agents
30:04review there again for June positions, running back, kicker and offensive line, and maybe
30:11cornerback at some point gets into that mix. Those are the ones we're kind of
30:15watching there as well. So any other Patriots news you got things you want to talk about,
30:21or we can get over to kind of some Celtics talk. I think that was pretty much it, you know,
30:27relatively quiet couple of days. So we did get a one last thing. We got the training camp
30:32reporting dates. Oh, right. So rookies will be in July 19th. Veterans will be in July 23rd.
30:40And that sets up for that July 25th, probably first practice. It's usually on that Thursday,
30:47Wednesday or Thursday. Yeah. So 24th or 25th. Yeah. Probably looking at the 24th, 25th for your
30:53first, uh, training camp practice there this summer. They'll probably go, they don't put pads
31:00on until like the week after this. It's usually the next Monday or Tuesday. So they'll practice
31:04Thursday. They'll practice Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, then on Sunday. And then
31:14Monday, Sunday or Monday will be the first fully padded practice. Yeah. I would guess.
31:19So mark your calendars that I don't know. They usually always start in the red zone. I don't
31:25know if that's how drawed Mayo and Alex and pelts are going to run things, but we'll be out there.
31:30As you said, before we know it, so mark your calendars for that, but let's talk some Celtics
31:35because banner 18 is officially up, uh, dominating performance last night. Kind of
31:43had some Oh eight games, six fives at some points there in the second half with, uh, just never
31:49really felt like, you know, Dallas, they cut it to like 15, 16 at some points there in the second
31:54half, but the Celtics were always in control. They seem kind of in control since like that
32:00nine Oh 10 Oh run that spurt to end the first quarter. That's where it kind of,
32:04it just seemed like they were taking that. So you were in the building all night, all morning.
32:09How is, it seemed like an awesome atmosphere there. Just, just how was the atmosphere and
32:14any, any Celtics takes there for, for your NBA champions?
32:17Yeah. I mean, it was unreal. They were in control the whole time. I'll say this. The only time it
32:20even felt like maybe they started slipping a little bit was late in that second quarter.
32:24And then Peyton Pritchard hit the half court shot. He might've invented a new position. How
32:29much, you know, we know Brad Stevens and bill Belichick are close. You know,
32:32is it, did Brad get the idea from bill? You have a half court specialist there.
32:37Anyone asks, does Pritchard practice those? Did anyone ask all the time?
32:41So he's been asked in the past, like he works on that shot a ton.
32:46No, he's like, that's it. It's intentional that that's kind of become his role. Um,
32:51awesome environment in the building last night. Uh, start to finish, you know, just
32:55causeway before the game, Boston totally stepped up. It felt like they're in control.
32:59It felt like a party at E it really felt from the second you stepped in, like, yeah,
33:04I wouldn't the title tonight, like tonight's the night this is going down. Um, they had their
33:10Miami booked already. So they were, they were feeling it. Um, I, uh, you know, I, I thought
33:17Tatum had a great closeout game, which was much needed. I thought he was the best player on the
33:21floor last night. It wasn't, it was a little surprise. Jalen Brown won MVP. I thought it was
33:26going to come down to that last game, but I, you know, looking back at it this morning, he was
33:29definitely the more consistent player over the course of the series and what a year for him.
33:33You know, you go back to a day after the season ended last year and he's taken the brunt of it
33:38after that terrible performance in game seven against Miami. Then he gets made the highest
33:42paid player in NBA history comes back. It's snubbed from all NBA. And what does he do?
33:47He's best player throughout the playoffs on the team that won the championship. So
33:51great year for him. Again, I thought Tatum was great. The Porzingis story was fun. Missoula
33:55needs surgery, which is wild. Um, but it's a, there's no reason that they can't do it again.
34:03Like I, yeah, apparently he's coming back. No, it's funny. I was talking to some of the
34:09reporters about, cause it reminded me of when I covered the Superbowl in 18 and like, Oh,
34:16you know, this makes me want to go back. I haven't been back. And one of the younger
34:19reporters was like, yeah, you know, I'm, I'm worried that I'm not going to get a chance to
34:22do this again. I'm like, no, but like when I was there, Tom Brady was 40 something years old.
34:28And we knew, we kind of knew this was it. This team's all under contract. They're pretty much
34:33all under 30. Like you'll be bad. I don't know how many more of the win, but they'll get back
34:37and the rest of the sucks. Like, I don't know. It would, it's going to take some serious work
34:41for any of these teams to get to the Celtics level. So it's kind of like those Brady Patriots
34:46were like, okay, the season starts in the Eastern conference finals. There was really that
34:52kind of vibe to it. And it started, I think in the Eastern conference finals game three against the
34:57Pacers when they were trailing for most of the game, but you still felt the whole time, like
35:02they were going to win it. And it was just this, it was not like they had this big spurt and the
35:06Pacers puked all over themselves. No, it was just this slow methodical business-like comeback
35:12to win it. And it did feel a little Patriots like, so I think the Celts are in good shape.
35:17I think the city's in good shape banner 18, uh, in the books parade on Friday, but now,
35:24so how do you feel about your Boston Bruins now having the longest title drought in Boston and not
35:31being the only team without multiple titles in the modern era? Like I, and this is how we think
35:36in Boston, like we win the title and we actually jumped to the next thing. Cause this is just what
35:39we do. And it is the Boston sports minute, not just the Celtics minute. I hope this puts pressure
35:46on the Boston Bruins. I hope it puts pressure on the Boston Red Sox, but it won't because John
35:49Henry, I hope this puts pressure on the Boston Bruins. You haven't won since 2011. So we're 10
35:55years ago. Everybody else has won two of the three teams have won multiple times since then
36:01like, let's go, but you're, you're lagging behind, step it up, get it. Go. I hope.
36:06Cause I think that's kind of what happened in 11, the Celtics one in the Bruins. You,
36:11there was a tone shift after the Celtics one in a way. The Bruins were the only team without a title
36:17in, you know, the modern era since 2000. And they got much more aggressive and they put that team
36:22together and they were able to go get one. And now they're in a similar position. Again,
36:25they won the longest style drought. Uh, the Celtics look like they're in a position to truly
36:31dominate. I'm whole. I want to see the Bruins respond. Let's see the Bruins respond. I hope
36:36they do. I hope that this, I mean, it's only been, it's been 13 years, but it already feels overdue.
36:41Like for a Bruins just because how close they've been, right? Like 13, 19 last year,
36:47the historic collapse. Like, so I don't know. I saw a tweet that, okay, now the garden is
36:53officially not cursed anymore because we have a banner. We just want a championship. So now it's
36:57the Bruins turn. So, uh, to shake their garden woes from the past few years. So yeah, they have
37:04all the cap space. Uh, they can, they can get aggressive. They can make something happen.
37:08I don't know how big that's going to be, but, but we'll, we'll see. Hopefully they get it.
37:13I just hope they find a way to trade all Mark, nothing against him. It's just,
37:16you don't need him in Swain and I'd pay Swain and you did the playoff performance this year,
37:20sealed it. And you can get something for old Mark. You can get a first round, but you should
37:24be able to get a first round pick or a top six forward for him. And they need that. They need
37:29that guy. So he's got to wave is no trade. Like that's all gotta get figured out. But
37:33if they can move him and then they really just need, where do you stand in the trade McAvoy camp?
37:40No, they're not. They're not going to do that. And, um, I, I wouldn't, you need guys. I know
37:48he had a bad, bad postseason. Is he the new, is he the new Jalen Brown? Cause this is what we did
37:52with Jalen Brown for, and this is, he could be, I mean, this is what the McAvoy defenders need to
37:57do. We did for a few years, Jalen Brown, I can't play in the playoffs and he's not a leader and
38:02they got to move him. And it feels like that's, we're going to do a Charlie McAvoy. He's only 26.
38:08That's the other thing. And just pretty much just like Jalen Brown, right? Like, I don't know. He's
38:13still one of the best defensemen in hockey. I'm willing to, you know, ride with him and hope he
38:20figures it out over trading him and, and, you know, opening that hole and trying to plug that
38:25another way. I I'd rather, I'd rather keep him. And I think he has a, no movement clause
38:29kicking in here anyway. So that, that would make that even more either way they need.
38:34I think they need another true top four defense, not like fringe top six, top four. I mean like
38:39top four fringe top two guy. Cause, um, uh, why am I blanking on his name?
38:46Laura Lindholm. No, no. Linholm, Linholm Hampus. Linholm has come up. He's, he's been good,
38:52but he hasn't been the player you expected him to be. Uh, so they need at least one more like
38:58true top four defensemen and obviously centers plural. Yeah. Like real centers.
39:03If Laura, I takes the jump and then they just get like, I, I don't think it has to be a top
39:09four defenseman. I know Yakup Chikrin has been a name out there. He's a, you know,
39:13top four guy on Ottawa. And even if Laura, I takes the jump, who's your fourth.
39:19Well, so I was going to say, if you get a, a better like third pair of defense,
39:23you can just take some of the tougher minutes off Lindholm. Maybe that
39:27opens him up. Like if he doesn't have to play, but you have, you have McAvoy,
39:31Linholm, Laura, I Carlo. All right. See, I that's it. Like, can you upgrade brain and Carla?
39:38Yeah. And then Carlo, Carlo is that higher level third pair defenseman becomes that.
39:46Yeah, maybe. I don't know. I think they really liked Carlo. Like he could be a sneaky next
39:50captain for them. Even, I mean, I think they do too, but you can do that from the third pairing.
39:54Yeah. Do that from the third pairing and the penalty kill. Yeah. That's what char was at
39:58the end of his career. So, but, and they need multiple centers. I mean, yeah, that's multiple
40:04centers. That's the one that's going to be interesting to see how that figures out because
40:08there's like two on the market, Elias Lindholm and Chandler Stevenson, and they're going to get
40:14so overpaid. It's going to be disgusting. And I'm, I'm scared of giving those guys that contract.
40:19What's a, what's Jacob for Baca Carlson. Oh my gosh. Who knows
40:24Maddie, Maddie, Patra is going to save us. He's going to save, he's going to be, but yeah, that's
40:31why if, if they can trade all mark, I don't know if they would get a top 10 pick for him. They
40:36would need like two teams who he would wave to, to get aggressive and like get into a bidding war
40:43to get like a top 10 pick like Ottawa and New Jersey are up there. If they could get one of
40:48those picks, there's like three skilled centers that are projected to go in like the back half
40:53of the top 10, like again, less sun and two other guys. Like if they could get one of those guys in
40:58the pipeline, they would just be golden moving forward. So that's, that's the dream case scenario
41:04there. But and then you could use that 5 million you save on all mark on, on the free agent market.
41:10I don't think they're going to keep the brusque. I hope they keep the brusque, but
41:14it doesn't look like it, but we'll see there. But quickly we'll talk about,
41:19I was going to say, this is what we do in Boston, right? Celtics just won a title and we're here
41:22bemoaning the Bruins. Although I'll say even like for the Celtics. So again, great night,
41:27they won. I mean, if you want more for me, nine, eight, five, the sports hub.com. But like
41:32the crazy thing about it is there, I remember when the Red Sox won in 13, I was on the phone
41:37with my dad, like right after they won it within like five minutes, we're talking about who's the
41:42shortstop going to be next year. Like didn't have a shortstop. And that's kind of the natural
41:45reaction. This Celtics team is so well put together. You can't even do that. Their top
41:51six are all under contract still. Like, yes, there's going to be extensions for Tatum and
41:54Derek white, but those guys are under contract. Hauser has a team option. He'll probably be back.
42:01The only ones are cornet and no shape or set. Everybody else is back. So you can't even do
42:06the, how do they repeat thing? They're just built so dominant. Like you said, with the Patriots,
42:11where it starts, we'll talk to the Eastern conference finals next year. Cause that should
42:15be the expectation because there's no reason to think they can't run it back. And they,
42:20it's not even just, they were the best team. They were so leaps and bounds better than everybody
42:26else. What can another team do realistically in one off season to catch up to them?
42:32That doesn't feel like a realistic task unless the nuggets can get yoke itch to stop caring about
42:37horses. And it felt like our whole thing last off season. And even the front half of this year is
42:44like, is Porzingis going to be healthy for the playoffs? They need Porzingis. And then he wasn't
42:49even healthy and they still, maybe it would be different if they ran into yoke itch without a
42:53healthy Porzingis, but he, they still dismantled the East without Porzingis. So that, that was,
43:01I don't know. It was cool to see like most of this felt like internal growth from your two
43:06superstars. That's where, and you know, you got drew holiday, but it was really without Porzingis.
43:11You replaced Brogdon, Grant Williams, Robert Williams with just drew holiday, but it was a
43:17lot of internal growth. So that was kind of cool to see from those two, the Jays and you know,
43:23some of the other guys on the team there, but quickly red socks. But before we do that game
43:28time, it's the authorized ticket marketplace of the NBA. We don't have to get playoff tickets
43:33anymore. Games at the garden are done till next season, but prices on the game time app go down.

44:47You were at the red socks the other day after mini camp. Are they sneaky, a fun team? They
44:54beat the Phillies and they won a series against the Yankees, two of the best teams in baseball.
45:00They went four and two. I love how much they run the bases nine steals the other night. Like,
45:05and with all these injuries, they might be a sneaky fun team, which I guess is all we were
45:10kind of asking for from our baseball team here at this point of the year.
45:13Part of me wants to talk down to him. Cause I want to be able to say the Yankees lost a series
45:16to a crap team. Cause that's more fun than anything. They're definitely finding a little
45:21bit of stride. They're going to be in the playoff line and you know, there's seven teams in the
45:25playoffs in baseball, which is too many seven teams per league, but like they're, they're going
45:30to be in the picture. I think what's so frustrating about it is if you actually invested in this team,
45:35there might be something there. I'm talking about today. I mean, in the off season too,
45:39but at the deadline, I just don't think they're going to do it. I just,
45:42ownership's made it clear. They're not going to invest at the deadline of cost of money. So
45:47I mean, they're fine. You know what? I'm not going to get my hopes up.
45:49Their trade deadline. Accusation is going to be Tristan Cassis and right. Exactly. Whoever else
45:55is hurt. That's coming back. They're going to sell that as their big trade deadline moves.
45:59Exactly. And then somebody will get hurt like a week after the deadline. So maybe they'll pick
46:03up a reliever, but like, I don't know. I just, they're fun. They're fun to playing really good
46:08baseball right now. I, they're probably about a 500 team altogether and that's what they've been.
46:15They're, they've been a little better the last couple of weeks, but they need another starting
46:19pitcher. They need a right-handed bat. They desperately need a real first baseman. Desperately.
46:24Yeah. Um, which I know is not cut when, when costs comes back, but like, can you, can you
46:30get go now? And this is what the Red Sox have done. This, this was a big bloom issue for me
46:36with the trade deadline, um, is, and, and Don Sweeney does this too. Sometimes
46:43I think that there's this misconception that the deadline happens on deadline day,
46:47the deadline starts whenever you want it to start.
46:50Don Sweeney has been all right about that.
46:52If you're like, he had the Rick Nash deal. That was like a week before the deadline.
46:56And then, but there's been years where teams are like a month ahead.
47:02Oh yeah.
47:02You're a, if you're a buying team, you want to be first, you do not want to wait. Cause there's
47:07less players available. The price only go up. Red Sox need a first baseman. If they're serious
47:11about making a run at this, I go get one. Now I go get, I mean, between now and July 1st,
47:17why wait till the 31st and let Dom Smith continue to trot out there
47:21when you can make the team better sooner. Especially if you're one of these fringe
47:25teams, if you're, you know, the way ahead of the pack, the Yankees, whatever,
47:28you can wait till the 31st. Cause you probably don't need as much help.
47:32I'd like to see the Red Sox get aggressive, make some moves late June, early July. If they,
47:36if they're really serious about this, that's what they'll do. They'll,
47:40they'll add either first baseman or starting pitcher. Maybe not today, but again, like
47:45early July, I'd like to see them do something like that. And if it doesn't work, the Braves
47:50did this a couple of years ago. I don't remember who the pitcher was, but they traded for a pitcher
47:54in like late June and everybody's like, Oh, early deadline move. Good for the Braves. They're going
47:57for it. They fell off. Like they just had a really rough month of July. And then they traded the guy
48:03away at the deadline. They're like, Oh, we're not buyers anymore. We're sellers. Worst case scenario,
48:07you do that. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, just bringing it back to the Celtics. I think everyone
48:13last night, it was so easy to make the correlation, like watching wick up on that stage
48:18compared to like what's happened with the Red Sox and John Henry.
48:21It's just night and day. And even like Brad Stevens, how great he's been
48:26just night and day. So hopefully they can keep this hot streak up and convinces them to kind
48:32of push some chips in there at the deadline. They have plenty of prospects. They can afford to get
48:37rid of some of them probably. So, although I'm not, I don't think they would trade any of their
48:42top guys for this team, but I hope they don't go that far, but yeah, hopefully they can do something.
48:50So again, we have some meaningful baseball into July into August and maybe even sneak into a
48:56playoff spot. I think if they were healthy, they could be in the playoff, like the current playoff
49:01of the playoff started today. I think they could be in that. So maybe they surprised us on the
49:06back half of the season there. Hopefully they get a little aggressive there at the deadline,
49:09but we'll wait and see. You never know. You never have your hopes up for the, that current Red Sox
49:15set up right now, but any other Boston takes you out there or we can wrap this one up.
49:20You probably are ready to go back to bed or go. I'm ready to take a nap. I won't lie.
49:2590 degrees. So we will wrap this one up here. We'll be back. I don't know, Thursday,
49:32probably Thursday, Thursday. Yeah. Q and a. So make sure you guys are in the chats,
49:37have your questions ready on the off season, looking ahead towards training camp. Anything
49:43Patriots you got, uh, we'll let you know when we're going live on Patriots CLNS.
49:48If Amit is awake at all to tweet that out, he'll probably be going into hibernation until training
49:53camp. Oh, he was, he was definitely still going when I was there when I left. So he got his
49:58picture with the MVP trophy. So I saw that must've been right after I left. I just missed that. I'm
50:04bummed. That's too bad, but yeah. Uh, yeah. We'll let you know. So you can also follow Alex on
50:09Twitter at real Alex Barth, head over to 98, five, the sports hub.com. He's got Celtics. He'll
