00:03Cash Strap Derbyshire County Council is to launch consultations into ending over £1m
00:08of funding for 50 community and voluntary groups as part of its cost-saving plans.
00:13The County Council approved two 12-week consultations into the future of discretionary grant funding
00:19to voluntary and community groups, which currently receive over £1m from the Council.
00:25People will be able to voice their views on the Council's plans, which could see the
00:28end of two types of handouts by March 2025.
00:32Councillor Natalie Hoy, who is Cabinet Member for Adult Care, said,
00:36Derbyshire's population has changed, and people's aspirations, needs and preferences
00:40for support have also changed, which is why it's important to consider consulting to
00:45get their views to ensure we're providing services they want and need to achieve better
00:49outcomes.
00:51She told the Council's Cabinet meeting that the authority recognises the valuable contributions
00:55from the voluntary sector, many of whom have received Council grants for over 20 years
01:00and the Council thanks them for their work, but she added the authority is facing financial
01:04challenges with limited funding.
01:09A little Chesterfield boy who is in Critical Care Unit has spoken to his auntie for the
01:13first time since he was rushed into hospital.
01:16Elijah Ray Dawson, who is five, came off a ventilator to tell his mum's sister Lauren
01:21Moore that he wants to go on the biggest rollercoaster with her.
01:24It was just what Lauren wanted to hear, as she spearheads an appeal to send Elijah and
01:28his family to Disneyland in Paris.
01:31Mum-of-three Lauren said,
01:32When he's better, I want to give him the best experience ever.
01:36He's just the kindest, most helpful little boy, a great peer to all his friends and a
01:40great brother to his little sister.
