Hello, Miriam here at the Bureau with your Easter long weekend forecast.
00:05
And we're taking a look at the extended long weekend this time, which means we're going
00:09
to start with tomorrow, Thursday, and have a look at the weather there first.
00:14
Now already we can see a pattern emerging across southern Australia which is likely
00:18
to persist for most of the Easter long weekend, and that is for broadly settled conditions.
00:24
So we're going to see morning fogs, partly cloudy to mostly sunny days, a few light coastal
00:30
showers or drizzle about the southeast, but broadly speaking, very stable settled weather
00:35
with a low risk of severe weather.
00:38
And this is likely for southern Western Australia, southeast South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania,
00:44
and southern New South Wales as well.
00:47
But it's a little bit of a different story the further north we go.
00:50
Partly along the east coast we can see patchy showers through New South Wales and southeast
00:55
Queensland impacting Sydney and Brisbane tomorrow, but with generally low rainfall totals, and
01:01
much more widespread shower and thunderstorm activity through much of Queensland, the Northern
01:06
Territory and Central Australia.
01:09
In fact, we may possibly see storms bringing heavy falls to parts of northern and eastern
01:13
Queensland tomorrow, with warnings potentially issued if they're warranted.
01:19
As we go into Good Friday, we're going to see that risk of heavy falls starting to migrate
01:23
into western and southwest Queensland.
01:27
That may potentially exacerbate the ongoing riverine flooding across those areas.
01:33
Through southern parts of the country, however, after some morning fogs, it will be a mostly
01:37
sunny and settled day.
01:40
Going into Saturday, we see that moisture converging through Central Australia, so the
01:44
rainfall comes together and starts to push into northern parts of South Australia.
01:49
Now it is drifting south, but it is unlikely to reach Adelaide at this point, we're more
01:54
likely to just see some cloud building through the day for South Australia's capital.
01:58
The risk of heavy falls is really going to be inland, mainly around the South Australia/Queensland/Northern
02:04
Territory border area.
02:07
Going into Easter Sunday, that rainfall is likely to continue across those inland parts
02:12
of the country.
02:14
Once again, we are expecting at this point a mostly dry day for Adelaide, but these rural
02:19
and inland areas could see further rainfall for their Easter Sunday.
02:24
In the west, it will be mostly sunny, settled and dry, with similar conditions in the southeast
02:30
as well.
02:31
A few coastal showers around the southeast Queensland coast, but broadly speaking, not
02:36
much rainfall is on the way for the east coast for Sunday.
02:40
Before Easter Monday, this rainfall will start to move into southeastern parts of the country,
02:46
through southeast South Australia, west and Victoria, pushing towards Melbourne later
02:50
in the day.
02:51
This system will be evolving at this time, which means through the later part of Easter
02:55
Monday going into Tuesday next week, we're likely to see the rainfall starting to ramp
03:00
up through parts of southeastern Australia.
03:04
At this stage, there are still a number of different possibilities as to exactly how
03:08
this could develop, so it is important to keep an eye on the forecasts and warnings
03:12
across the Easter weekend.
03:14
Looking at our temperatures now, we're in for fairly cool conditions across the country
03:19
to start off with tomorrow.
03:21
Really only the west coast is sitting above average.
03:24
As we go into Good Friday, we'll start to see things warming up through the southeastern
03:28
parts of the country, pushing to the mid to high 20s at least in most areas.
03:34
That will continue into Saturday with that warm weather really building through those
03:38
southeastern and western parts of the country.
03:42
But Easter Sunday is likely to see a milder burst once more across southern parts of Australia,
03:48
including southern Western Australia, southern South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria, all
03:54
likely to see temperatures in the lower 20s for Easter Sunday.
03:58
It will stay warm across the far west however with temperatures in the mid to high 30s.
04:03
Cool inland though, under that cloud and rainfall that's moving through those areas, with temperatures
04:09
generally below 30 degrees.
04:11
A similar pattern will continue on Easter Monday, broadly mild to warm across the country,
04:17
but still seeing those areas of below average temperatures in the southeast and central
04:22
Australia.
04:24
Whatever you have planned for your Easter weekend, it's essential to stay up to date
04:27
with all of the latest forecasts and warnings via the Bureau's website and weather app.
04:32
Have a happy Easter and we'll catch you next time.
