Voting has closed in the Labour leadership race, which will see the winner take on the role of First Minister. Jeremy Miles and Vaughn Gething are the men vying for the job after 5 years of stewardship from Mark Drakeford. The name of the winner will be announced on Saturday.

A barrister for a group of bereaved family members of people who died during covid has called on the Welsh government to publish all WhatsApp messages from the time of the pandemic. Kirsten Heaven has said the Welsh government have shirked proper scrutiny by refusing a Wales-only inquiry.

A train company has submitted plans for a direct train journey between London and Wrexham. Alstom, who put the proposals forward, say that the service would run five times a day in each direction starting from next year and would essentially replace the Avanti service that currently runs between London and Shrewsbury.
