Hello from the Bureau of Meteorology.
00:02
Ex-tropical cyclone Lincoln is currently over northern Western Australia, about to move
00:07
over the ocean and we anticipate a high chance of this system restrengthening back into a
00:12
tropical cyclone in the next couple of days.
00:14
This severe weather video will be focused on north-western Australia.
00:17
It's up around the Kimberley region of WA.
00:20
This 'L' showing us where the ex-tropical cyclone is currently located and it's moving
00:25
this way, which means through the remainder of the day on Wednesday it will cross the
00:29
coastline and move back out over the Indian Ocean.
00:32
The rain which has been falling steadily, and in some places quite heavily for the past
00:35
couple of days across that Kimberley area, is going to ease back through Wednesday afternoon
00:40
and evening, but there's still a chance we could see some river level rises based on
00:44
the last couple of days of rainfall.
00:46
So this flood watch remains in place from the NTWA border out towards Broome.
00:52
Now let's see the possible movements of where this ex-tropical cyclone is likely to head.
00:56
On Thursday it starts to tilt and move in a south-westward trajectory out over the ocean
01:01
without having a major impact on mainland Australia.
01:04
There will be a few showers and possible storms likely for some of these coastal regions in
01:09
northern WA.
01:10
When we reach Thursday night or Friday morning, I'm actually going to jump into the track
01:14
map because we anticipate a high chance of tropical cyclone redevelopment back into a
01:18
Category 1 tropical cyclone to occur through the middle of the day on Friday, still out
01:23
over the water.
01:24
We could see further intensification to a Category 2 tropical cyclone by Friday evening,
01:29
but as we approach the start of the weekend, this system is still offshore there out over
01:34
those waters to the north.
01:35
However, through the day on Saturday we could well see another coastal crossing as this
01:40
tropical cyclone.
01:41
It will be Tropical Cyclone Lincoln, once again, crosses back onto northern parts of
01:46
WA as a Category 1 or possibly a Category 2 tropical cyclone, after which, when it goes
01:52
back over landfall, it will weaken away once again and start to move in a south-eastwards
01:56
pattern.
01:57
You can see this yellow area here for some parts of the northern WA coast.
02:01
That is a tropical cyclone watch which has just been issued in the last hour or so, showing
02:05
which areas are likely to see the strongest winds with this next coastal crossing of the
02:10
tropical cyclone.
02:11
So we have the watch in place from Roeburn down to Ningaloo, including Exmouth, Onslow
02:16
and Karratha, where gale force winds are expected within the next 48 hours as this renewed tropical
02:22
cyclone approaches.
02:24
So if you are in northern parts of WA, do stay up to date with the weather and the warnings
02:28
associated with this ex or current tropical cyclone, and that can be found at the Bureau
02:32
website and on the Bureau app.
02:34
We'll be giving you track updates on social media as well.
02:36
Thanks very much for watching.
