In a significant step forward for India's space exploration efforts, ISRO is all set to launch its meteorological satellite, INSAT-3DS. The launch is scheduled to take place at 5:35 pm this Saturday from the Sriharikota spaceport. This marks the 16th mission for the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV F14) which aims to deploy the INSAT-3DS satellite into the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).

00:00 In a significant step forward for India's space exploration efforts, ISRO is all set
00:06 to launch its meteorological satellite INSAT-3DS.
00:10 The launch is scheduled to take place at 5.35 pm today i.e. on 17 February from the Sri
00:16 Harikota Spaceport.
00:17 This marks the 16th mission for the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle GSLV-F14, which aims
00:24 to deploy the INSAT-3DS satellite into the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit or GTO.
00:30 The INSAT-3DS satellite is a follow-on mission of the third-generation meteorological satellite
00:35 from geostationary orbit.
00:37 The mission, fully funded by the Ministry of Earth Sciences or MOES, is designed for
00:42 enhanced meteorological observations and monitoring of land and ocean surfaces for improved weather
00:48 forecasting and disaster warning capabilities.
00:51 Indian industries have played a significant role in the construction of the satellite,
00:55 showcasing a collaborative effort towards advancing space technology.
00:59 Various departments of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, including the India Meteorological
01:03 Department, National Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting, Indian Institute of Tropical
01:09 Meteorology, National Institute of Ocean Technology and Indian National Centre for Ocean Information
01:15 Services will utilise the INSAT-3DS satellite data to provide enhanced weather forecasts
01:21 and meteorological services.
01:23 The primary objectives of this mission include monitoring the Earth's surface, conducting
01:28 oceanic observations and analysing the environment in various spectral channels of meteorological
01:33 importance.
01:34 The satellite aims to provide a vertical profile of various meteorological parameters of the
01:39 atmosphere.
01:40 In addition to this, the INSAT-3DS satellite will facilitate data collection and data dissemination
01:45 capabilities from the Data Collection Platforms or DCPs.
01:49 It will also provide satellite-aided search and rescue services, contributing to the safety
01:55 and well-being of those in need.
01:57 Prior to the launch, ISRO Chairman S. Somanath visited the Sri Chengalamba Temple in Andhra
02:02 Pradesh's Sulurpet.
02:03 He sought blessings for the mission.
02:05 In a brief statement to reporters, he highlighted the importance of the INSAT-3DS satellite
02:09 for weather and climate studies, emphasising its role as the third satellite in the INSAT
02:14 series.
02:15 "The launch of GSLV rocket, GSLV-F14 INSAT-3DS launched today at 5.35 p.m. evening.
02:25 So this is the satellite is meant for our weather climate studies.
02:31 It's a meteorological satellite.
02:33 I think you know the cyclones we track using the satellite.
02:36 We predict the weather for the country, looking at the rainfall, the cloud cover and many
02:43 other parameters we measure.
02:44 This satellite is built for our Ministry of Earth Science, specifically the Indian Meteorological
02:50 Department.
02:51 They do all the data analysis and provide you the weather forecast and all the protection
02:55 of our natural resources.
02:58 So we are launching it.
02:59 This is the third satellite in the series, INSAT-3D and 3DR are already there in space.
03:04 So this is the third satellite, INSAT-3DS.
03:07 Because our old satellites are now we have to decommission.
03:10 That's why this new satellite is being put with a lot of improvements.
03:14 So I came here today to seek the blessing of Changadamma Bhagwati for blessing us for
03:20 the success of this mission.
03:21 So I seek all your blessings also for the successful launch of the INSAT-3DS by GSLV-F14.
03:28 Thank you.
03:31 For those eager to witness this historic moment, the launch sequence can be watched live starting
03:36 from 5 p.m. on ISRO's website, its social media channels and the Doordarshan Network.
