On June 26, Milwaukee was rocked by a brutal ambush when veteran police officer Kendall Corder and partner Christopher McCray were gunned down while responding to reports of gunfire in a North 24th Place alley. Officer Corder, a six‑year MPD veteran, was struck multiple times and succumbed to his injuries days later, leaving the city and his fellow officers in mourning. Officer McCray survived wounds to his back and foot and has been released from Froedtert Hospital. Suspect 22‑year‑old Tremaine Jones was arrested the next day on $200,000 bail. Mayor Cavalier Johnson and police leaders praised Corder’s courage and sacrifice, honoring a hero who truly “died doing what he loved.” Watch our full report for on‑scene updates, reaction from the community, and details on the ongoing investigation.
