Former beef industry leader Larry Acton believes industry bodies have ignored the potential threat of PFAS contamination in livestock. Video by Judith Maizey.

00:00 Well, I think there's been a lot of knowledge that this has been an issue for 20 years now.

00:09 Our industry bodies seem to have ignored it totally.

00:15 Because there isn't an Australian residue level that's been set,

00:22 they haven't bothered both the industry organisations, the government departments,

00:28 none of them seem to have addressed this issue.

00:31 I'm outraged that groups like Cattle Council, the Ag Force Council,

00:37 Meat and Livestock Australia especially,

00:40 because they are supposed to be protecting our markets and developing new markets.

00:46 There's countries that we sell meat to that have now set PFAS, MRL levels in meat.

00:56 And we know, I know, just from my little bit of experience with our situation here,

01:03 that the level in the water here is much, much, much higher,

01:08 thousands of megajoules or whatever the measurement is,

01:15 higher than the EU level.

01:18 So surely our industry bodies need to start to address this.
