China welcomes Nauru's decision to rest relations with Beijing while cutting ties with Taiwan;  Reformist Bernardo Arevalo is sworn in as Guatemala's next President;  Kites fly in Mexico City to show solidarity with Palestinians on 100th day of Gaza war

00:11 The victory of a pro-independence presidential candidate over the weekend having China seething and sour-graping,

00:19 saying the results of the elections in the self-ruled island nation did nothing to change the fact Taiwan belongs to China

00:26 and will somebody return to its fold by force if necessary.

00:31 But earlier today, China had a little consolation and something to smile about

00:36 as Nauru, a South Pacific island state, severed diplomatic ties with Taiwan and re-established its bonds with Beijing.

00:45 And this truly welcome event for the mainland was immediately touted to the world

00:50 with China's foreign ministry heaping praise on the government of Nauru's smart decision to re-engage and reset ties with China.

00:59 Taiwan, for its part, said it will terminate its diplomatic relations with Nauru

01:04 to maintain some dignity in the wake of the latter's announcement of its decision in a Facebook post.

01:10 Still, Taiwan accused China of poaching Nauru with economic incentives

01:14 and dubbed the switch as diplomatic repression after losing its ally.

01:20 After a long-drawn-out delay of nine hours perpetrated by hostile lawmakers on the other side of the political aisle,

01:28 reformist and left-leaning presidential candidate Bernardo Arevalo is officially sworn in as Guatemala's president.

01:36 The extended pause in officially installing Arevalo as the legitimate winner of the last polls

01:42 and president of the economically struggling Latin American country

01:46 was due to the legislator completing the oath-taking of lawmakers

01:50 as a precondition to Arevalo's official declaration and oath swearing.

01:55 If Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu and U.S. President Joe Biden think they have the moral ascendancy

02:04 in keeping the status quo on in Gaza, most nations on the planet think otherwise

02:09 and have voted in the United Nations for an unconditional ceasefire in Gaza.

02:14 And on the occasion of yesterday's 100-day milestone of the lopsided and brutal war in Gaza City,

02:20 rallies and massive protests took place all over the world calling for an immediate truce,

02:26 such as in Washington, D.C. and in London.

02:29 South of the border in the United States' west coast,

02:32 Mexicans of all ages and persuasions gathered in Zócalo Square in Mexico City

02:38 to fly kites as part of the Global Kites in Solidarity Day

02:42 to show its support and compassion for the innocent Palestinians getting slaughtered each day

02:48 from Israel's relentless bombing and scorched-earth game plan against Hamas

02:53 in much of the condemned city of Gaza.

02:56 Of late, the casualty count in Gaza City has close to 24,000 Hamas fighters and innocent Palestinians dead

03:04 and some 60,500 wounded.

03:07 Records from the Hamas-run Palestinian Ministry of Health also show

03:11 over 10,000 innocent children have perished in this one-sided war.
