00:00 Hello, I'm Maria Ressa.
00:02 For years now, you've heard me talk about the insidious manipulation of algorithms of
00:06 artificial intelligence on social media, the very platforms that connect us.
00:11 Well, we haven't only been gathering that data, we've also been building a tech solution
00:16 for that, and I'd love you to try it now.
00:20 Take out your cell phone, and whether you're on iOS or Android, download the Rappler Community
00:26 Chat app.
00:27 When you click Community, you're going to see chat apps, and these chat apps are actually
00:33 your choice to join.
00:35 So this is the beginning of it, but what I want to tell you about this is the new tech
00:39 that is, again, by design, giving you your agency, giving you your freedom.
00:46 We are moving away from social media and generative AIs, Pavlov's dog's world, to something called
00:53 the Matrix Protocol.
00:55 This is what we built the chat apps on.
00:58 It is an open protocol for decentralized, secure communications.
01:02 And you know, the thing I love best, it has a manifesto that matches Rappler's standards
01:07 and ethics manual.
01:08 It says that people should have full control over their own communication.
01:13 They shouldn't be locked into centralized communication silos.
01:16 You're not going to get fed what we think you should see.
01:19 Instead, it is all your choice.
01:22 You will pick what you want, right?
01:24 The second one is really, this one is critical, that this is a basic human right.
01:30 The ability to converse securely and privately, that is a basic human right.
01:36 It's such a relief to be able to write and to share and to deal with ideas without being
01:43 afraid.
01:44 I think that's the critical part.
01:45 You won't be attacked.
01:47 You won't be manipulated.
01:49 This is a place where we can be free to be ourselves.
01:53 And here's the last part, right?
01:56 The kinds of moderation that are there is a combination of man and machine or women
02:02 and machine, right?
02:04 Aggressive AI that will take away any kinds of attacks that are coming at you.
02:09 So you should feel safe.
02:11 And the second one is that hopefully you will get the feedback that you want.
02:15 If you've got a great idea or if you're looking for ideas, this is it.
02:20 Try it out.
02:22 See you soon.
