Hello and welcome to our latest guide to 5 things to do, and we're going to slightly
00:09
deviate from the norm this week, mainly because there's not much going on. Instead, we're
00:13
looking ahead to the brand new year, and I've picked out 5 highlights of things to look
00:16
forward to in 2024.
00:19
We start in Wigan of all places because the Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft is finally
00:24
coming home to play a concert that his North West fans have been waiting over 25 years
00:28
to see. He will appear at the Robbins Park Arena, Wigan Warriors' new multi-million pound
00:33
facility on Saturday 20th July. Tickets are expected to sell fast for this long-awaited
00:39
homecoming show, which is the first time the oral-born 52-year-old will have performed
00:43
in Wigan since he and his former band The Verve famously played to tens of thousands
00:47
of fans at Haywoodland Park in May 1998.
00:51
To East Lancashire next for the much-anticipated Beat Herder festival, which returns to the
00:55
Ribble Valley between the 18th and 21st July. The summer music festival has been running
01:01
since 2006 and gets bigger and better every year. Hosting over 8 stages of live music
01:06
and big-name DJs, wonderfully local-sourced food, as well as a number of creative workshops,
01:11
this festival caters for everyone. Early bird tickets are now on sale, with 9-month payment
01:16
plans also available.
01:19
In Lancaster, the Highest Point festival returns to the glorious Williamson Park on Friday
01:24
10th and Saturday 11th May. The stunning 54-acre grounds is one of Northern England's best-kept
01:30
public parks and it will once again play host to some of the most revered names in British
01:34
music, representing an eclectic spectrum of sounds and styles. Ticket holders are set
01:39
to be spoilt for choice when it comes to entertainment over the two-day spectacle. In addition to
01:43
a chock-a-block line-up of music over six stages with world-class artists and DJs, there
01:49
will also be lots of family entertainment, not to mention a variety of mouth-watering
01:53
refreshments and delicacies supplied by a score of highly-rated regional vendors. Fun
01:59
for all ages guaranteed!
02:02
In Lytham, we can look forward to a bigger and better than ever Lytham Festival between
02:06
the 3rd and 7th July. The festival has grown from a one-night-only community prom-style
02:11
concert to a spectacular five-day music event which now attracts well in excess of 100,000
02:17
people each summer. Staged on the banks of Lancashire's stunning Ribble Estuary, acts
02:22
announced so far include James, Johnny Marr, Rick Astley, Madness, Lightning Seeds and
02:28
the Cortinas just to mention a few.
02:32
Finally to Preston and Rockpressed, the UK's biggest tribute festival that brings you blistering
02:36
sets from some of Europe's biggest and best rock and indie bands without their costly
02:40
ticket price, returns to Moor Park in July. Two days of crowd-surfing, chorus-chanting,
02:47
family-friendly fun, this unique family-type festival will see over 35 bands on three stages,
02:53
beer tents, food markets, thrill rides and kids activities. Acts already planned will
02:57
see tributes to the Rolling Stones, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Pink, The Chemical Brothers
03:02
and many more. Rockpressed is now in its ninth year and Moor Park Preston is the perfect
03:08
setting for an amazing two-day festival.
03:11
So there you are, plenty to look forward to. I suggest you have a nice, calm, quiet January
03:15
just to prepare for what sounds like a busy year. Join me next week for a more normal
03:19
five things to do, but until then, take care and I'll see you next time.
