Is it time to change working from home rules?

00:00 I'm not saying you should go back to work full time.
00:02 I appreciate that hybrid working is going to be the thing of the future.
00:05 I can't see a problem with that.
00:07 But when you can't get hold of anybody in the town hall,
00:11 or you can't get hold of anybody in the bank
00:14 because they're all working from home, it's not good.
00:16 I was a pharmacist all my life, working in the community.
00:19 I couldn't work from home, no matter what the situation.
00:22 I don't blame people for wanting a change in their lifestyle,
00:25 but it has to be compromised.
00:26 It can't be five days a week working from home.
00:30 It just won't work.
00:31 I think on average it's two to three.
00:34 And the 36 million figure is based on up to three days a week.
00:39 Working from home? It's too many.
00:44 Whatever, working from home affects your city centre,
00:49 and yet when you go into town, you sit in the cafes
00:53 and you hear people on their phone saying,
00:55 "I'm working from home today."
00:56 And they're sat there drinking coffee.
00:58 And don't tell me that their mind is concentrated on their work.
01:00 Because it's not. It can't be.
01:04 Working from home or that really forced upon people,
01:07 I think it only had a good effect for a lot of individuals on there.
01:10 As you said, the cost is very much a big question,
01:13 and the commuting and all the costs that come with that,
01:16 it's a different question if it's cost the city centre a lot of money here.
01:19 But if you're talking on the individual scale,
01:22 I think it needs to change and at least accommodate that as a big improvement.
01:26 I think there's a lot of jobs that can be made better by working at home, certainly.
01:30 To say that it should all go back to the way it was would be just unreasonable.
