A kitten stuck up a tree for two days was rescued after its owners built scaffolding to reach it.

The six-month-old cat called 'Naartjie' ran up the into the branches when it followed a hedgehog in the garden - and got spooked by the prickles.

Owner Jade Russell, 26, spotted the small tabby cat up the tree - where it was stranded for two days.

Eventually Jade, of Clacton, Essex, had to put scaffold up to rescue her pet from her own garden.

Jade, a graphic designer, said: “He got prickles in his nose and must have frightened him, and he ran up the tree.

“He kept climbing higher and higher and it was so windy. He was swaying in the wind with the tree.

"I had tons of people offer to climb the tree however it wasn’t safe to do so, so I declined their offer.

“My partner had the idea to hire a scaffold tower from Clacton Tool Hire, which we called at 7am when they opened.

"They came at 9am so my partner and his dad assembled it and up they went.

"Naartjie's back to normal now but felt very sorry for himself for a few days after!".
