A resident swinging couple on Channel 4's 'Open House' said they originally applied "after a heavy night out" - and '10 times more' sex happens off-camera.

Lily Jones, 33, and her partner, Joe Turner, 30, feature in Channel 4's 'Open House: The Great Sex Experiment'.

The show, which is currently airing, sees previously monogamous couples explore open relationships and sex with others.

Engaged Lily and Joe are part of the group of 'residents' - who are experienced in non-monogamous activities and help introduce it to newcomers on the show.

Lily, an account manager, and Joe, a tradie, began swinging two years ago and applied for the show after a night out.

But they jumped at the opportunity when producers responded and revealed it's even more steamy in real life.

00:00So we applied for Open House, The Great Sex Experiment, kind of on a whim actually.
00:05We got in after a night out and we'd been open for probably a few months, was it?
00:10A couple of months at this point.
00:11Yeah, a few months before that. And Joe one morning was like,
00:14oh well, when we got in from the pub last night, I've applied for this show.
00:18I was like, what?
00:19And then completely forgot about it for maybe a year.
00:22By the time Channel 4 got back to us and they asked us if we would like to be
00:29residents and not guests as the original application stated.
00:35It was probably one of the greatest experiences ever doing the show.
00:38Yeah, it was a lot of fun.
00:39Yeah. And even though Series 3 is probably one of the most explicit yet,
00:43what went on behind closed doors was even more explicit.
00:47I wish they showed that on TV.
00:49So as part of the application process,
00:51we were told that we kind of had to tell our friends and family,
00:55just there's more of a duty of care, I think, as to us as applicants to the show.
00:59Obviously, naturally, we did. We told Joe's mum actually at the zoo on a family day out.
01:04Yeah, we were at the zoo on a family day out and had that conversation with my mum about
01:09how open our relationship is and that we were going on the programme.
01:14Yeah, I think a little bit of shock, but followed up with a lot of support.
01:19And yeah, all of our parents are totally fine with what we do,
01:23as long as we're happy and yeah, they're really supportive of us.
01:27In fact, my mum and stepdad watched it and I think my stepdad was like that.
01:31But my mum said, yeah, she's proud of how we both came across, didn't she?
01:35Yeah.
01:35A highlight for me, I think, was meeting everybody involved with the programme.
01:41All the other residents, absolutely fantastic people.
01:43Production.
01:43The production were amazing and getting to meet a new couple
01:50every other day was a really good opportunity.
01:53Yeah, and people from all walks of life as well.
01:55There was no real set formula for who was on the show as residents or guests this year.
02:00And I think that's really shone through,
02:02at least in the first few episodes that we've seen.
02:04And I can't wait to watch more of them.
02:06Yeah.
02:06There wasn't really any low points on the show, I don't think.
02:08The whole experience was really fun.
02:10I don't think there was anything that I was like,
02:13whoa, that's an uncomfortable situation, I think.
02:17It was a learning curve.
02:19We grew closer together.
02:20Our relationship expanded.
02:24And yeah, I wouldn't say there was any low points at all.
02:27So when I think about me before and after the show,
02:30they're two quite different people.
02:31I was always quite camera shy, maybe, you know,
02:35not quite as you would think I was in episode one or two before the show.
02:41But now, I mean, I still work full time, but I also couldn't give a proverbial of what
02:46people think of what we do, who we are.
02:48We kind of, we never really gave much of a, to what people thought before.
02:54But now, since we've been on the show, that's really, really even more intensified, isn't it?
03:01But as, you know, the experiment goes on and you're exposed to the cameras every day,
03:07you get used to them being there.
03:09And it's not all, when you're on set filming, it's not all cameramen walking around with big rigs.
03:16It's stationary cameras that are manned from a control room.
03:20Particularly in the yurt.
03:21Just to clarify, there weren't cameramen in that room.
03:23Yeah.
03:24There were mobile cameras.
03:26So yeah.
03:27You get used to the cameras pretty quickly, don't you?
03:29Yeah.
03:30We keep in contact with pretty much all of the other residents.
03:34We have about 10 group chats on WhatsApp with everybody, which is quite a lot to keep on top of.
03:43No pun intended.
03:46But yeah, I mean, even the guest couples, we keep in contact with quite regularly, don't we?
03:53Yeah, we met up actually with a guest couple straight after the show.
03:56We went to a local venue for the lifestyle with them.
04:01And that was nice to see them outside of the show.
04:03But yeah, I mean, as for our wedding, that's going to be pretty much 50% of the guest list,
04:08I think, is open house residents.
04:12Our immediate plans are we're going to get married in about a month's time.
04:15Yeah.
04:16Actually in this very garden.
04:18So yeah, checking out the wedding venue.
04:22Other than that, we're going on honeymoon to Koh Samoye,
04:24and we've got a few parties planned with some of the other guests and residents we met on the show.
04:30Yeah.
04:30So lots of fun this summer.
