We did the £20 outfit challenge at Glasgow’s famous Barras Markets

The Barra Markets is the heart of Glasgow’s East End community, existing for over 100 years.   We went down to see how we could dress for £20 and try some of the famous street food.

00:13 We are in the east end of Glasgow to visit the world famous Barrow Markets, which has existed in the city for over 100 years.

00:18 You can find essentially anything at the Barrows. Clothes, furniture, tools, artwork, toys, even records.

00:23 You can go play a game of football, then have a tarot reading and then go for a pint.

00:26 It's very unique, but a perfect representation of Glasgow's culture.

00:30 So today myself and Liam have come here to challenge ourselves.

00:33 Tonight we are going to the 200th anniversary of Auchentosh and Distillery,

00:36 in what is anticipated to be a spectacular event in which we need something to wear.

00:39 Now we each have a £20 note, barely anything in this current financial climate,

00:43 but needs must and we're excellent hagglers.

00:45 So I will be dressing Liam and Liam will be dressing me. Let's go.

01:12 It's a very sunny day here at the Barrows. How are you doing Liam?

01:15 It's great. It's sweltering actually. I've dressed a bit too warm.

01:18 On your challenge, I'm actually finding it hard to spend this £20 because things are extremely cheap.

01:24 People keep telling me the Barrows is gentrified, Caitlin, but I'm buying things for like £1, £2.

01:29 I just bought two items of clothing for £4 from Sustainable Fashion. I can't wait for you to try it on.

01:34 No, well there's a table up there and it's just full of clothes and everything's 50p each or three for a pound.

01:42 It is cheap as chips here at the Barrows.

02:03 Right, so this is Liam's outfit. Liam, how do you feel?

02:06 I feel like any other folk that cut foot at the Barrows, to be honest. I don't like that out of the place, I think.

02:18 Then we got the sunglasses for £1, the beads for £1 and then the ring was £3.

02:42 It cost her a total of £4 but Caitlin has really done me dirty in that she said, "Make sure it's in the same style and it makes sense."

02:55 Because we're going to a DJ set tonight, it's a gig almost, I thought everyone will think Caitlin's so cool with her church's top.

06:33 When that came, I just punched the mic there.

06:35 What was that? It was iron brew chilli sauce and teriyaki soba.

06:39 It's like a Japanese barbecue sauce.

06:41 We've also got loaded chips here, which look incredible as well.
