We speak to the traders at Glasgow’s Barras Market

We visit Glasgow’s famous Barras Market.

00:00So, I'm Jenny and I love colourful, bright furniture and interiors, so I make everything.

00:08So all the lampshades are traditionally upholstered, so they're all hand-stitched.

00:12And then I like to keep in a kind of style of traditional techniques, but with modern fabrics.

00:19So therefore, this style of lampshade, you probably would have never seen this colour.

00:24Do you know what I mean? Like many, many moons ago.

00:26I like these colour of fringes, so I just like to make things fun and different and bespoke.

00:32So something that you can just walk into a shop and buy.

00:35I've been in the Barras for a lot of years here and there in different stalls up the tap and different other areas I've been in.

00:43So I've been in the Barras for about 10-15 years doing different things as well, you know.

00:48It's going to sound pure cheesy, but I don't see it as a task of coming here.

00:52It's something I look forward to at the weekend.

00:54So I have a wee part-time job I do Monday to Friday, plus I'm self-employed.

00:58So it gives me time to work on everything, to come here.

01:01And then I get excited because I think, oh yes, I get to show this this weekend.

01:05Plus I get everything that's finished, it gets a name.

01:08So like all my lampshades are named or the furniture's named.

01:12So it'll be like you could have Francie and Josie in your house or you could have Christophe or Ricardo who gets loads of attention.

01:19I've had a collection, I've got a garage full with about 300 containers of stuff.

01:24And I just, my two lasses didn't want it, so they said to me, sell it Dad.

01:29Because it will just fling it in the bin.

01:30So this is what's brought me into buying and selling again, you know.

01:33I'm enjoying it, I love the Barras and I love the atmosphere.

01:36And everybody that comes to the Barras, you know.

01:38We try to encourage people to come to the Barras again, to bring it back to life.

01:42You know, and that's the best I can do for it, you know what I mean.
