Are modular homes the future of housing?

Gary Mayatt, managing director of Enevate Homes, talks about the benefits of modular homes

00:00 is 3D building in a secure, warm, dry location,

00:05 built in a factory under factory conditions,

00:09 rather than taking bricks and sand and timber to a field.

00:14 Cost-wise is similar to a traditional,

00:19 but you have the shorter period on time.

00:21 So there will be a saving there.

00:22 And we use less material in the ground

00:26 because of our buildings are a little bit lighter

00:29 than traditional buildings.

00:31 And the average time can be,

00:33 we can build modules in about 20 days.

00:35 Then they come to site and it's about two weeks

00:37 to land them and hand them over.

00:40 I think the government have incentivized people

00:43 to build off-site by giving a larger grant

00:45 to build off-site 'cause we can build houses quickly.

00:49 That's probably the main reason

00:52 why people are trying to change now.

00:54 And also the massive shortage of labor now.

00:57 You can't get labor where you used to get labor

00:59 quite easily, and now any labor you get is very expensive.
