Wales headlines 12 July: Dog fighting incidents up over 50% in Wales

The charity RSPCA Cymru are calling on the public to help spot potential dog fighting rings as the number of cases increases over the last few years. Last year there were 25 dog fighting incidents in Wales, up by over 50% on the previous year, with an expert saying we are seeing ‘pre-pandemic levels’ of fights return.

A teacher from Newport who was stabbed while in his school in Gloucestershire is recovering well and hopes to be teaching before the summer holidays. Jamie Samson, who teaches maths at Tewkesbury Academy, confirmed he wasn’t breaking up a fight before being stabbed.

A number of archaeological finds, including 2 burial groups and 3 hoards, have all been declared treasure by the South Wales Central coroner, which means museums now have a right to purchase the finds. The 5 lots include coins and weapon fragments as well as a gold ring and spear head dated as far back as 3000 years.
