Olivia Newton-John and Dolly Parton have released a duet of "Jolene," which marks the final recording for Newton-John. The collaboration came about a year before Newton-John's death in August 2022. In the music video, Parton introduces the song by saying that Newton-John is "one of my favorites of all time". The two singers harmonize together on the song, with Newton-John singing the opening verse from the studio.
Parton and Newton-John have been friends since 1974 when Newton-John won Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year award. Ahead of the release of their duet, Parton shared her last memory with Newton-John: recording "Jolene". A State Memorial for Olivia Newton-John will be held in her hometown of Melbourne on February 26, 2023.
