four-decade high, hitting 7.7% last month.
This holiday season, retailers are hoping
deep discounts will encourage
Americans to shop in stores and online.
Heading into Black Friday, clothing,
shoes, toys and electronics are among
items already getting marked down.
In the hopes of drawing in holiday shoppers
looking to spread out their spending, some
retailers are offering markdowns earlier than usual.
Levi's is already offering a 40% discount,
while J. Crew is offering 50% off. .

According to shopping expert Trae Bodge, this year's Black
Friday sales should see standard discounts between 20% to 25%,
while bigger markdowns should be easy to find.
