Multiple evacuation orders as flooding hits communities
  • 2 years ago
More communities in Victoria have been ordered to evacuate now as floodwaters rapidly rise. In the past few hours people in Barmah in the state's north and people in nearby Bunbartha have been told to leave immediately. Other areas of concern include Echuca, Kerang, Charlton, Murchison, and Rochester. Kerang is facing the real prospect of being cut off for the next two weeks. And just days after the Campaspe River flooded 12-hundred homes in Echuca more than a thousand homes there are being threatened by the Murray River. The Murray is expected to peak as early as tomorrow at levels not seen in 150 years. Meanwhile floodwaters are starting to recede in Shepparton with the focus shifting to recovery. The state government has announced a 5-point-5-million-dollar relief package.
