Procida Island, Italy’s Capital of Culture
  • 3 years ago
Procida is the smallest and least known island in the bay of Naples.
You probably saw the island in the movie The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Procida is often overlooked in favor of its neighboring islands Ischia or Capri but it is not less beautiful.
Indeed, Procida won the title of Italy’s Capital of Culture for 2022.
The title was fought by 9 other candidates and it's the first time that it’s granted to an island.
It is a huge celebration moment for the island of 10,000 inhabitants and gives hope for the future while the whole country suffers from the pandemic crisis.
Even though the government calls to visit the island, some residents are already concerned about mass tourism that has ruined other Italy’s treasures.
Residents wish for a balance between developing the island and maintaining its characteristics and traditions.
You won’t find big luxury hotels and spa but you’ll live a unique and an authentic experience as you’ll get to know the community and its tradition.
