Insurers Face $1 Billion Loss
Insurance carriers for oil and gas exploration firms are preparing for around $1 billion in physical damage to offshore rigs and other structures after Hurricane Ida passed through the Gulf of Mexico. The estimate from property data and analysis firm CoreLogic does not include losses from disruptions to production. The oil volume stopped by Hurricane Ida has risen to around 1.7 million barrels per day. Industry experts also believe that the remnants of Ida that caused historic flooding in the Northeast could account for more than $10 billion in damage.
