सीडीसी के मुताबकि हर्पीज़-बी वायरस से संक्रमित व्यक्ति में आमतौर पर फ्लू जैसे लक्षण ही दिखाई देते हैं। संक्रमित को बुखार और ठंड लगने, मांसपेशियों में दर्द, थकान-सरदर्द की समस्या हो सकती है। जिन लोगों को बंदर काट लेते हैं उनको शरीर के घाव या आसपास के हिस्सों में छोटे फफोले हो सकते हैं। संक्रमित होने के तीन से सात दिनों में लक्षण दिखने लगते हैं। प्रयोगशाला के कर्मचारी, पशु चिकित्सक और अन्य लोग जो मैकाक बंदरों या उनके सैंपल के संपर्क में आते हैं, उनमें संक्रमण होने का खतरा अधिक होता है।

According to the CDC, a person infected with the herpes-B virus usually has flu-like symptoms. The infected may have fever and chills, muscle aches, fatigue and headache. People who are bitten by monkeys may develop sores or small blisters on the surrounding parts of the body. Symptoms begin to appear three to seven days after being infected. Laboratory workers, veterinarians and other people who come into contact with macaque monkeys or their samples are at higher risk of contracting the infection.
