हिंदू पंचांग (Panchang) के अनुसार हर महीने कृष्ण पक्ष की अंतिम तारीख को जब चंद्र दर्शन नहीं होते उसे अमावस्या (Amavasya) कहा जाता है. अमावस्या तिथि का हिंदू धर्म शास्त्रों में काफी महत्वपूर्ण स्थान है. अमावस्या को पूर्वजों और पितरों का दिन माना जाता है. इस दिन पवित्र नदियों में स्नान कर, गरीब और जरूरतमंदों को दान करने की बात कही जाती है. मान्यता है कि ऐसा करने से पितृ दोष (Pitra Dosh) से मुक्ति मिलती है. जो अमावस्या शनिवार के दिन पड़ती है उसे शनि अमावस्या कहा जाता है. 13 मार्च शनिवार को है फाल्गुन माह के कृष्ण पक्ष की अमावस्या जिसे शनिश्चरी अमावस्या के नाम से भी जाना जाता है. इस दिन शनिदेव को प्रसन्न करने के लिए आप कौन-कौन से उपाय कर सकते हैं ।
