신규확진 451명, 지역발생 420명... 사흘째 400명대

South Korea is seeing more than 400 cases of COVID-19 a day, a slight fall since it was into the 500s a few days back... but authorities say this could be because of less testing at the weekend.
The capital area, where the majority of local transmissions come from, has imposed additional measures to prevent cluster infections.
Kim Do-yeon reports.
South Korea reported 451 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, of which 420 were local transmissions.
The government has officially labeled the current surge a third wave.
The number of new cases has fallen slightly from late last week, but only because of the slowdown in testing over the weekend.
In fact, experts are voicing concerns that with the current trend of the spread, there could be a thousand cases a day by next week.
With sporadic clusters throughout the nation, the majority of the local transmissions came from the capital area.
From Tuesday, the government is enforcing stronger measures on the capital region, on top of the level two distancing measures already in place.
The stricter measures include a ban on Saunas, but under certain circumstances showers are allowed
Some indoor exercise classes such as Zumba, aerobics, indoor cycling and kickboxing can't run until next Monday.
Private music lessons for wind instruments and singing are canceled until then as well.
But students who are preparing for college entrance exams will be exempt from this additional measure.
As it's getting closer to the end of the year, the government has also banned year-end events and parties,... particularly at hotels, guest houses, as well as at other types of accommodation.
Outside the greater Seoul area, there are also hundreds of new cases each day, raising concerns of nationwide spread.
In response, the health authorities also raised social distancing levels one notch to level 1-point-5 for a two-week period... but this could change depending on the local situation.
