U.S. sees decrease in new COVID-19 cases while some European nations strengthen measures

Covid-19 continues to affect all corners of the world including the U.S. where the caseload is now near 6 million. Over in France, wearing a face-mask in public has become mandatory across Paris and several surrounding areas as that country recorded more than 6-thousand new, daily infections.

The U.S. has by far the highest number of COVID-19 cases and deaths out of any other country in the world.
According to data from the Johns Hopkins Hospital, as of Friday, the U.S. has seen more than 5-point-8 million cases.
The death toll surpassing 180-thousand.
Although the number of new cases has slowly decrease by about 12-percent a day over the past week,... the United States is still recording an average of more than 9-hundred deaths per day.
In Europe, France has ordered the mandatory wearing of face masks in most workplaces in its capital, Paris, due to a sharp resurgence in daily cases since July.
Starting September 1st, this rule will be applied to all shared spaces, including offices and factories.
"After consulting with the Mayor, we will extend the mandatory wearing of face masks to the whole of Paris. The question is being asked if the surrounding areas should be included as people travel between them."
As of Friday, nearly 300-thousand people have been infected in France with more than 30-thousand deaths.
Meanwhile, Germany is imposing a minimum fine of 59 U.S. dollars across most of the country for those violating mandatory mask-wearing regulations.
Through the end of the year, German officials have also extended a ban on large events where social distancing and contact tracing are required.
Germany has a caseload of more than 240-thousand and over 9-thousand deaths.
As of Friday, the number of COVID-19 cases worldwide had reached more than 24 million.
The global death toll at over 831-thousand.
