A British-developed rocket shoots 17 miles into the air from an Icelandic launch site as part of a test flight for the company’s larger launch vehicles. The 13-foot tall sub-orbital Skylark Micro rocket was launched from the peninsula of Langanes in north-eastern Iceland on 16th August. The rocket, developed by the Scottish company Skyrora, was launched in two parts with an interval of a few seconds, and reached an altitude of six and 30 kilometres (4 and 19 miles respectively). The rocket climbed to a reported height of 26.9 kilometres (16.7 miles) before both stages parachuted back down to sea. The Skyrora launch was hosted and assisted by Space Iceland, formally established last year. Its goal is to support space science in the Nordic country.
