S. Korea's car production down 19.8% y/y in 1st half of year

South Korea's car production has been hit hard by COVID-19, but it has still done better than its global rivals.
According to the Trade Ministry, around one-point-six million units were made by local auto firms over the first six months of this year.
That's down 20 percent on the previous year's figures.
But despite that drop, Korea actually moved up in the global production rankings, climbing from 7th to 4th.
Korea's car exports also plunged by around 33 percent on-year over the same period, but domestic sales were up by more than 7 percent, and exports of electric and hydrogen vehicles soared by 82 percent and 68 percent, respectively.
