The governor of Gangwon-do Province, called for international efforts, especially from the U.S., to resume South Korean tours to the North's Mount Geumgang.
At a press conference today, Choi Moon-soon said he visited Washington last week and delivered a letter to Vice President Mike Pence and also met with government officials and lawmakers there.
The governor explained his province faced economic difficulties since the tours came to a halt in 2008.
He also stressed the resumption would help break the current diplomatic stalemate.
Choi asked Washington to help in resuming the tours to Mount Geumgang, and if that's not possible, then those to Wonsan tourist district.
He also proposed forming a tourism zone that connects the eastern mountains of South and North Korea, as well as developing Goseong-gun... county divided at the inter-Korean border as a UN Peace city.
