Philippine-born former lawmaker seeks to end discrimination through Justice Party

Former lawmaker Lee Jasmine, who was born in the Philippines and became a naturalized citizen of Korea, has returned to the political scene this time as a member of the left-wing Justice Party.
She had previously served in the conservative bloc.
Speaking at the National Assembly on Monday, Lee vowed to work for the basic rights of migrant workers and multicultural families living in Korea, saying she hopes to foster understanding between migrants and Korean citizens.
"Multicultural Korea is not about 2.5 million migrants it's about the 50 million people living and breathing together in this country so it's all of the members of the society.
Minorities and migrant issues are issues that we are supposed to face together and I think the key is mutual understanding."
Lee claimed that while migrants are considered vulnerable in Korea, no one is speaking for their rights.
She said she hopes to be the one to help them and asked for public support.
