Caffeine use in first 8 weeks of pregnancy may increase risk of miscarriage: Study
  • 5 years ago
A new study suggests caffeine intake may increase the risk of miscarriage.
According to researchers at the U.S. National Institutes of Health, ...women looking to conceive and in early pregnancy should eliminate caffeine from their diet …as there is a slightly higher risk of miscarriage among those who drink two or more caffeinated drinks a day.
The researchers are due to present their findings this week at the congress of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
The medical community has long been split on whether caffeine is harmful in small doses.
Longstanding advice has been to restrict caffeine intake to 200 milligrams or less a day.
