‘Iringole Kavu’ is a grove situated in Kunnathunad Taluk, Kerala State, which is five kilometers from Perumbavoor. Being one of the 108 Durga Temples Kerala, is said to be built by ‘Parashurama’ in the myth. The Bhagavathi temple is located between Kuruppumpadi and Perumbavoor in the Alwaye-Munnar route, 35 kilometers away from Ernakulam.
Formerly, administration of the temple was handled by 28 Brahmin families including ‘Pattasheri’, ‘Orozhiyam’ and ‘Nagancheri’. By the end of 1947, during the tenure of Sir C.P Ramaswami Iyer, administration of the temple was given to Travancore Devaswom Board. Exact details are not found about the origin of the temple.
It was one of a large number of ‘Kavu’ under the Nagancheri Mana. In 1980, ‘Iringole Kavu’ was handed over by the ancestor of the ‘Mana’, Vasudevan Namboothiri to the Perumbavoor Municipality, according to Land Development Law of 1963, as a person can't hold more than 15 acres for his own. At present, the ‘Kavu’ is at the under of Travancore Devaswom Board.
