North India is under the spell of an intense cold wave making this the coldest New Year in nearly a decade. There was dense fog around India gate this morning. Around 14 flights were cancelled and 15 were delayed as the visibility dropped to around 100 metres early this morning. Both maximum and minimum temperatures were the lowest recorded this season in Delhi. On Monday, the day temperature was seven degree below normal at 13.3. It was 5.5 degree C last night. 3 more deaths have been reported in Uttar Pradesh over the last 24 hours, with the death toll in the state up to 92 this season. Met officials blamed winds blowing down from the ice-capped peaks of lower Himalayas for the dip in the mercury. Their forecast says the cold wave is likely to continue for the next couple of days.
