Hurricane Lane was nearly at a standstill Thursday morning, August 24, dumping torrential rains and causing devastating flooding on the storm’s slow approach to the central Hawaiian islands.Lane’s final track was still uncertain: Forecasters said the storm, carrying 105mph winds at 8am and barely moving to the north at 2mph, could still hit Maui or Oahu over the next 24-36 hours before making a westerly turn. The Category 1 storm has passed the Big Island, which was still under a tropical storm warning and suffering “catastrophic flooding,” according to NOAA.Oahu and Maui County remained under a hurricane warning, while Kauai County was under a hurricane watch.
