Residents Return to Retrieve Items in Lava-Ravaged Hawaiian Neighborhood

Residents affected by the lava flow and eruptions in Leilani Estates, Hawaii, were allowed to go home to collect items on Sunday, May 8.Those whose homes were in safe areas were allowed to return. About half of the properties were accessible, a news report said. The area was still under evacuation order for about 1,700 people as of Monday.The lava had claimed 35 structures, and many more were threatened, according to Hawaii News Now.Kilauea had been erupting through fissures in the neighborhood since last week.Eden Snyder, who took this video, said in his post that he and a friend were attempting rescue items from the friend’s home, but the entire street had been overtaken by lava.
