The Mendocino Complex Fires, consisting of the Ranch Fire and River Fire in Mendocino and Lake Counties, have exploded to 230,000 acres, making it one of the largest fires in state history. According to local media, 68 homes have been burned and 15,000 structures are threatened. At least seven evacuation centers and two animal shelters have been operating since the fires broke out, and evacuation orders continue to be issued as the fire spreads. As of the evening of August 5, the Ranch Fire was 23% contained, and the River Fire was 53% contained.
