북미 신뢰구축, 비핵화협상 진전 동력될까? - 민정훈 교수 대담

Joining me in the studio today to discuss this further, we have with us Professor Min Jeong-hun from the Korea National Diplomatic Academy. Thank you for making the time to come in today.

My pleasure.

1 - The U.S. State Department has confirmed that no money was paid to North Korea for the repatriation of the remains of American soldiers killed in the Korea War. This is different to previous instances. Why do you think this time it was different?

Do you think it perhaps shows that North Korea is in a position where they want/need relations to improve more than in the past?

2 - Trump has expressed his thanks to Kim Jong-un for returning the remains. But so far there has been no acknolwedgement of it on North Korean state media. Why do you think that is?

3 - North Korea are not shying away from their improving relations with the U.S. and South Korea. The North Korean embassy in Beijing has recently put up a display of photos with Kim Jong-un meeting President Moon Jae-in and Trump. Are you surprised at something like this?

4 - Now that the remains of the U.S. soldiers have been returned what comes next? How does this affect the denuclearization process with North Korea?

5 - Before the remains were returned, in the last working-level talks between the U.S. and North Korea, the two sides pledged to restart excavations to find the remains of more U.S. soldiers from the Korean War. How many remains do we think there are, and what do you think are the prospects of this happening?
