Typhoon Prapiroon brings heavy rains, winds to Korea's southeast

Let's get back to the latest on the damage caused nationwide by the ongoing torrential rains.
The southeastern regions have been heavily affected... with multiple buildings collapsed and school canceled.
Meanwhile, typhoon Prapiroon is inching closer to the southeastern coast of the Korean Peninsula.

The Korea Meterological Agency's latest official announcement at 6 PM local time... indicates that Typhoon Prapiroon is around 130 kilometers to the south of Busan.
The typhoon was headed northeast at a speed of approximately 27 kilometers per hour.
The weather agency predicts that on its current course, the typhoon will come within 90 kilometers of Busan by Tuesday at 9 PM... and then move to waters to the southeast of Dokdo Island by Wednesday morning.
A typhoon alert is still in effect in Gyeongsangnam-do Province,... but the storm is expected to weaken and move more slowly as it moves out to the East Sea.

Meanwhile, strong winds and heavy downpours continue to wreak havoc across the southern regions.
There have been reports of damage to infrastructure and flooded streets.
And most schools in the Gyeongsang-do and Jeolla-do Provinces canceled class.
Three deaths have been reported since Sunday.
There were no more reported on Tuesday, but one person was injured.

Flights were also disrupted by the wind and rain.
Jeju International Airport said at least 44 domestic flights were cancelled and 25 were pushed back.

The agency also said most of the southern regions and some eastern coastal cities will see torrential rains of up to 30 milimeters per hour until Thursday afternoon when the typhoon's influence is expected to have dissipated.
