Glastonbury stampede underway as thousands poured through the gates.

More than 175,000 people will cram into the 900-acre Worthy Farm over the five-day event, which will play host to more than 2,000 acts across dozens of stages.

With car parks opening from 9pm on Tuesday, cars began arriving throughout the night and fans started queuing in the early hours.

Organisers estimate that around 90 per cent of the 135,000 ticket-holders will have set up camp by the end of the day in a bid to get the best camping spots.

But while the early arrivals basked in sunshine and and temperatures topping 20 degrees, rain is forecast for later in the week.

People have been told prepare for the worst in Pilton, Somerset, with reports of wellies and waterproofs selling out in many stores near the festival site.

The first performer on the official line-up was flautist Frei Zinger, on the Croissant Neuf Bandstand at 11am yesterday (Weds).

But the major acts do not take to the stage until Friday through to Sunday before the camp closes on Monday evening.

Acts this year include Florence and the Machine, James Bay, The Who, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Paloma Faith, George Ezra and Mark Ronson.

An army of 40,000 security guards, litter pickers, stewards, volunteers and retailers will also spill onto the site over the next few days.
